Why?

This appears to be a very solid pickup for the Bruins. A "go for it now, and the future" kind of move. Young injury plagued player who looked very offensively talented when playing. One more year before RFA. They also get rid of a remaining year, plus one more, of a bad Backes deal.
The defensive prospect AA seems alright enough, the 1st will be late but there should be someone good enough to grab there. Ducks appear to just want to get rid of Kase, while taking on more dead money. Advantage Bruins.

Bruins 1st round pick is like a 10th of the value of a Sabres 1st round pick. So.. if you're a poop team, like we are, why are we trading it with Kyle Okposo for a fringe top 6 forward.

While retaining. And shortening his contract.

It's always fun to point out that he's one of our most productive UFA signings of all time, especially when everyone is plotting their UFA signings for the summer.

We didn't make any trades before the deadline because we believe in the guys in the room... We wanted to see where our 100 point center and nobody else would take us.

It's hard to make a trade, those GM's are good over there.
