Lol Simmons article about Leafs' 'disastrous' season. They're in a playoff spot with 20 games to go and no Morgan Rielly.
- Zezel

I really hate this city. The Leafs are judged differently than every other team.

They are top 5 in man games lost and have no Rielly. If they had an average backup they'd be one of the top teams in the NHL.

i still don't have high hopes for the postseason but last night was a good reminder that the team can still play.

I would think so. I don't know much about their private lives, but Spezza, Muzzin, Hyman, Clifford and Tavares may be the only ones who are actually married.

I think guys like Kapanen and Nylander have girlfriends who live in their home countries, and I also believe Marner and Matthews are single. That makes for a lot of freedom for young guys with a lot of money.

- Monkeypunk

Marner has a long term girlfriend. Well at least as a few months ago. Met the aunt/uncle of the girlfriend through work. They say he's a nice boy.

It's all about expectations.

Lots of people expected the Leafs to be one of the best teams in the east.

So far, they are getting in the playoffs only because Montreal, Florida and Buffalo are also poopting the bed in even more spectacular fashion.

Right!? Other teams go through the same things and it's like the leafs have no talent and are at the bottom of the league. It's crazy.

In addition, I think it's so toronto media to call it a disasterous season when it's only 75% over.

Let's step back and be objective for a moment - if you can. I know you love this team. This is not about the results, the standings, or the excuses for why being lazy isn't paying off (our other stars are hurt, so when we slack we're not getting good results)

There was a significant difference in the way they played last night and the way they have played for the majority of the season. There was a real level of engagement and real work ethic in full view last night.

I want them to win. And yes, if the goaltending had been better by both Freddy and Hutch or a reasonable backup, we'd be 6-8 points up on where we are. If Babcock hadn't crapped the bed, we'd probably be another 6 points up on that.

They would be around 80 points, which would have them firmly entrenched in their standard #3 spot.

But the narrative that the Leafs don't work hard enough and don't pay enough attention to the details is not untrue. They rely on the goalie too much. Yes, an NHL goalie should make hard saves. It shouldn't be your game plan that the goalie will make hard saves. It should be what you fall back on.

To your point that the Leafs receive unfair criticism: They do. They are scrutinized more than most teams - for instance I watched Tampa last night, and they are still just as defensively porous and relying on Vasilevskiy too much. They're a lot like the Leafs. But they do have a President's Trophy to show for it.

I believe that both Tampa and Toronto are not going to take the next steps in success unless they learn to pay attention to the details and work harder - and not just rely on the fact that they have stars who can score.

Gotta appreciate how well he has replaced Gardiner in Maple Leafs fans hearts.

In such a short time, he managed to be despised just as much as Mr. Game 7.

Trade Barrie for something. Trade that something and something else (if needed) for Manson.

And it's the owner of the Octagon steakhouse behind the Leafs bench with his golf pro buddy.

Don’t hate him. He’s a pending UFA, can get back a decent return, and not needed on this team. Package what they get with Dermott to get a good top-4 D with term.

just counting games lost to injury doesnt tell us a lot.

10 games of Tavares vs 10 games of Kerfoot is not the same.

I dont know if there is a perfect system.

There's another one I've seen that uses GAR, and it puts the Leafs in the top-5 impacted as well.

that account I posted has a bunch of different ways to look at it.
Leafs are 8th in points lost to injury. But the thing is it affects every team some way.

Its nothing to harp on, it sucks to lose a good player, but good teams march on and win anyway

"Only". Were those teams expected to be great? Some thought Florida *could* make the playoffs. Most thought Buffalo and Montreal would not.

You're giving too much credit to those crappy teams.

Nashville's season looks like a disaster (But we don't criticize a team like that!) 21 million for those 3 centres. Christ. And I have to hear about 40 million for our stars?

Toronto media is just weird. I know it's about getting attention, but at some point look like you actually follow the NHL.

Florida's season also looks like a disaster. a 32 year-old goalie in the 1st year of a 7 year deal for 10 million per having a sub 900 save %. HAHAHA. THAT'S a disaster. And trust me if Dubas signed that deal he'd be run out of town and everyone would be talking about it.
