It is the goalies fault. Watch other teams...

This happens in Tampa games all the time and their goalie is freaking lights-out right now.

Let's be honest, when Freddy is "Hot" he's an elite star. The issue is his "Cold streaks", are longer than almost every goalie and he can be brutal for 4-6 straight weeks. Every October he stinks. Every January he stinks. He's a very up and down goalie.
There isa nothing he has done to prove he's with Vezina candidate the media hypes him as

- RogerRoeper

This year his cold streaks are longer, yup. Hard to pull out of them with how the team plays in front of him.

He’s not an elite star, he makes the saves and doesn’t give up many rebounds.

Not many goalies would have the shots that have been going in.

Pitts loss was embarrassing for the team ( it happens ) they played like a Midget AAA team...it’s been like that for weeks...injuries don’t help, but stop with the garbage.

We do/did have a goalie issue.. Anders0n is back, I hope..
- PatC80

He’s Anders0n because we didn’t give up any breakaways or odd mans or PP tap ins

We can blame the goalie all day, it’s the easy thing...but from what I’ve seen...there’s not many softies. Crap play and we have reasons but crap play regardless.

This will be the first year his avg will be below .914 of his career.
Since becoming a leaf his gaa has increased on avg by 0.45. No coincidence.
Hes had an off year, a year when the team went through some turmoil and injuries.

Sounds like they are willing to listen to offers on Barrie, but it has to make sense.
No point in moving him for a draft pick, that leaves them razor thin on the right side.

- senstroll

nothing wrong moving for a pick if that's the only choice...

or you turn around and use that same pic(s) to acquire what you need/want...

I agree with 99% of what you have said, the only thing I don't is the LIKE aspect. I don't think anyone LIKES to do it, they all realize it's a necessity to do it to win and the all Like - actually LOVE to win things like the Stanley Cup so they do what needs to be done.

Leafs need to get to that place.....where you do what's right because it's the right thing to do even when it's harder or less fun.

- Cush29

It is the right thing to do, but what I mean is not the physical part per se or the hitting a guy or whatever. I mean things like the board battles. I think someone like Crosby or Wilson or Bergeron or even Ovi like to jam and battle and win those pucks; I think they get satisfaction from winning those battles. That's just a take on it, too. It's the impression I get because I think you don't win that many battles without having a passion for wanting to win that many battles.

Check his entire year over year stats the entire time he has been in Toronto. He's been top 10 every year and top 5 most years.

You couldn't be more wrong, this year is the exception not the norm.

PS - Hot take, not every Vezina goalie is lights out Oct to June......but you knew that already right?

Ok now I agree with you.

I was joking to a buddy the other day that Keefe should have walked into the room after the 2nd period last night and just screamed at the top of his lungs "BOYS, MF'ING YES, JUST KEEP F'ING DOING WHAT YOUR DOING AND DON'T STOP UNTIL THE GOD DAMMED BUZZER GOES" and finished it with a Ric Flair WOOOOOO and walked out.

Video sessions should just be making everyone watch game video of Hyman and being screamed at "see what Zak did there - DO THAT" while Hyman eats popcorn.

Tampa is very porous. Now, I've only seen about 5 of their games this year, so perhaps I just caught the bad ones, but when I consider how good their D is on paper, I am shocked at how many glorious chances they give up. Early on in the year Vasilevskiy was not making the high danger saves (.778 in October, .792 in November), but he has rounded into form (.853, .896, .865 - league average is .824) and you've seem them become the league's most dangerous team as a result.

Now, the chances they give up aren't as overt as what Pittsburgh had against Toronto on Tuesday, but that's the PK where it was just . . . really brutal. At 5v5 the chances against are . . . often stoppable. He's not stepping up there like we're used to.

The criticism of Andersen is fair. But the alternative point that the Leafs are not playing well defensively is also fair. Particularly, again, when you take into consideration how they are capable of playing as witnessed last night.

1) Agree not an elite star - doubt Leafs extend him
2) Disagree - there are better goalies that have far superior positioning and are much better puck handlers - Freddie handling the puck outside his crease brings out nightmarish images of Freddie from Friday the 13th.
3) The Leafs had a terrible game, including Freddie
