I’d rather not make the team worse this year.

Several reasons;
1) RHD
2) Young, controllable RFA
3) can defend a bit better than Barrie - PatC80
Oh ya?
Cool.
I didn't know anything about him.
Never seen him play |

okay but Hanifin is 23. and signed for the next 5 years - BINGO!
Yep and he will be 27 in 3 seasons and a year away from UFA.
If you are going for a full rebuild you take the picks. NJ owners didn’t want that.
They probably wanted him to take Hanafin |

Why would stetcher be a good get? - Fakepartofme
He wouldn't be. Small 6th D for the Canucks. Not worth it. He's the Tyler Bozak of RHD. |

Frank Seravelli says the Flames offered New Jersey a package built around Noah Hanifin for Taylor Hall earlier this season and the Devils said no. - BINGO!
TSN has Carolina's 1st rounder as the #5 most important trade chips up for grabs by Monday. Wouldn't it be funny if Carolina ended up keeping both picks and drafted two players worse than Jake Bean? |

Well then their owners were smart.
Even in a full rebuild, having a 27 year old Hanifin on defense can only help.
Otherwise you'll most likely end up trading for one anyway.... giving up what may be a first rounder in the process. |

He is Arb eligible...played like a 2nd pairing D the last 2 seasons before this. - Santo_44
The only knock on him is his size. |

the Corey dude?
dont think every game...but way more than I would ever - senstroll
Those stats are fine if you don’t get to watch your own team play, not needed if your Keefe/Dubas..they get to watch the tape and I’m sure they can figure out if the goalie just sucked or he was beat by a good shot / play - poor d etc etc
I don’t care about the rest of the league
JMO of course.

I also don’t think I view Hanfin as highly as you guys do.
He’s been a decent 2nd pairing guy. Seems like Flames fans have been wanting to trade him for a while. |

Good shots and plays happen multiple times a game. There’s plenty of shots in a game that a goalie could get beat and it wouldn’t be “his fault”
The goalies job is to make tough saves not just the floaters from the half boards.

Is it fair to say another undersized, #6D is not what the Leafs need?
Already have Holl signed at 2 AAV to be better. |

but Stetcher is not a 6th D-man..
Quinn Hughes rapid development took over some of his ice time, but last year Stetcher played close to 20 minutes a night. That's not a bottom pairing guy minutes |
