There isn't typically a large demand for defensive forwards in FA, its one of the main inefficiencies good teams exploit.
Offset the cost by giving Girgensons's spot to Asplund. - Michael Ghofrani
But he's a C. Jay Beagle got 4yr@3m. Riley Nash [email protected]. Is there much difference between the 3?

Nash had scored 15G/41 pts when he got that deal. The Beagle signing was...well idk what that was but it shouldn't have been that |

If the leafs go 10-7-2 in their final 19 the Sabres would need 29 points in their final 20 games, or 28 and outpace the leafs by 4 ROW. Thats not even factoring in florida. They dont really control their own destiny here. - Michael Ghofrani
All true but:
1. Toronto isn’t trending to anything close to that
2. It’s the first time in like 20,000 years we could possibly be in the playoffs, I’d like to see it play out. Even if they don’t make it, and odds are they won’t, it’s good for the team to be playing meaningful hockey in March.
I have no confidence jbotts can pull off good trades tonight/tomorrow

Is Ruotsalainen good enough defensively to enhance the offensive punch on that line? - kingcong39
Not sure, I think they envision him being the 4C tbh |

Would love AA, don't think we have what it takes to get him though. |

He's a nice offensive player with some upside still, but he's got exactly 1 30 goal season (no other years over 20), 1 year with 50+ points (no other over 33 points), he's a -45 this year, and he's not even a center (spending the majority of the year at RW).
Yikes.
Is he REALLY "all that"? I don't see it. |

I haven't seen people say that.
That being said you don't want your 1st round picks and 6m dollar players on the 4th line. - toddkac
Boom. Nailed it. The 4th line at $4 million or so - keep the LOG line intact. The LOGs as our 4th line at $10 million+ after this season =
Lazar, Asplund and Okposo (unfortunately) will save the Sabres probably $3 million. |

You're questioning if we have the pieces acquire him.
He has Johansson numbers.
I don't think he's the type of player you overpay for. |

They are boring as hell. But they aren't bad.
I would still sell though, too many teams in front of them to chase - Michael Ghofrani
I second this opinion.

With those kinds of stats, I don't either and why he has gotten so much attention here. If he could be had for a good price, sure. |

If you're saying we don't have the pieces to acquire him, then you're insinuating that he's all that.
He's a 2nd line player, at best. We have the assets to acquire that. |

There is no way the Sabres can tie up $11 million+ on their 4th line next year - (Okposo @ $6 with the twins at $2.5 each on average). And if that becomes our 3rd line, we are still missing the playoffs. Okposo + Lazar + Asplund will probably cost you $8 million. I would rather have that extra $3 million to to help in other more needy places than the 4th line.
Great to see Larry and Girgs on a nice run right now and having a good season. Hopefully Botts can turn them into some better than expected picks tomorrow. |

Look for botts to send Sheary to the islanders for a 4th round pick. The Islanders will then trade him for a 2nd. - robz228
Addition through subtraction. He has not looked good |

If he trades either or both I think they both get 2nds, granted they would probably be late 2nds. He can’t trade away all his UFAs as he won’t decimate the Rochester roster |

We aren't trading our 1st or 2nd
We aren't trading Eichel, Reinhart, Risto or or VO for him
Detroit isn't going to want our trash.
Why is that so hard to figure out? |
