I hope they never take that away. The cap was brought in to help smaller budget teams be competitive, but if everyone is working within the same floor and limit, then money should be fair game.
Any GM that can spend to the cap should be looking to buy picks with every TDL transaction - WhiteLie

Website says they've got at remaining regular season games and it looks like they qualified for the playoffs. So possibly done early March?

You are the only one that can catch me in the pool this week but you need 13-0 and I need 0-13 |

Bettman hates when teams can find loopholes around the cap and CBA. There is no way this isnt addressed during the next CBA agreement. I dont hate it at all, I simply cant see it going over well with the commission. |

I don't think it matters much. My teams annually choke in the first round, 1st seed, 3rd seed, I'll be on the consolation round in 2 weeks' time |

2 regular season games remaining, closing out on the 27th Feb
Playoffs start in the first week of March and the first round could run to 14th March
If his team gets knocked out, he could potentially make the last 4-5 games in the Canucks season, assuming both parties wanted that to happen. I liked where his *play* was at when he chose to leave, but don’t get the sense he has really progressed & dominated in the KHL.
I know someone posted this a week or two back, but would Tree be eligible for the playoffs ?? |

I'm just not sure how they could, without making it absurd. Especially if you break it down into individual transactions:
Toronto trades x-round pick for Lehner at 50% retained
Chicago trades Leaf's newly acquired x-round pick to Vegas for Subban+
Vegas trades Leafs x-round pick to the Leafs for Lehner at 44% of the 50% cap hit they carry.
There are already restrictions on how many cap hits you can retain, so I think its impossible to close (not to mention other sports do it - MLB sends real cash and NBA sends salary slots) |

So with the TDL done, it's amazing that every single year, people and teams realize how much they overpay on the actual day, yet it always continues to happen
Miller was a conditional 1st and a 3rd
Toffoli was a 2nd, b grade prospect, conditional 4th
Demelo for a 3rd
Dillon two 2nds
Martinez two 2nds
Coleman for a 1st (lol exception)
Today:
JGP was a conditional 1st, 2nd, and conditional 3rd
Andreas athanasaiou was two 2nd round picks.
Goodrow was a 1st round pick
Lehner for a 2nd
Skjei for a 1st
I'd take the two earlier trades that benning did over anything that happened today, or the other earlier trades mentioned as well, minus coleman trade - Codes1087
People say trades are "over payments". Optics of how its looked at. They don't see the 31st pick in this years was traded. They see a 1st. A 2nd round pick is that 32 or 58th?
I think people really over rate what comes out of any draft. An NHL player is not a question mark. Any draft pick is. Thus the "overpayment" because honestly you should get two cracks at the draft if your are giving up a decent NHL player. |

I was wondering the same thing. I think he should be, because it was either a Kostitsyn brother or Radulov that returned one year for Nashville. But I'm certain there is some contract/player status thing that determines it |

Yeah I'm feeling the same. I have an unusually lucky 10-3-6 record for SH points; or that I have the best head-to-head record for hits even though I'm like 4th or 5th in total hits |

I don't see it any different than last year when we signed Rafferty and he played. It wasn't playoffs though. |

I love it, if we had cap space to utilize cap percentages to acquire picks, I'd be all over it. I just feel like this is the type of thing that drives the league crazy.
