It was a deep draft, just because ole Vantel doesn't understand the process doesn't mean it wasn't a deep draft. Very few NHL'ers come in at 18 and light the league up like the Crosby's or Ovechkins or the McDavid's, that doesn't mean they won't be fantastic players, it doesn't mean they will either though.

Joe Thornton had 3 goals his first year, 7 points, he's going to be a first ballot HHOF'er when he retires with more than 1500 points.

Bo Horvat was a 9th overall pick and it took him a few years to establish himself, now look at him, he's a great second line center option (for a 3rd line center).

Instant success for kids is completely unrealistic, just because you don't get a generational player doesn't mean you didn't draft a great prospect.

I’m not agreeing with him. I would have loved for Benning to have been half as good as Dorian has been in the Sens rebuild, and Doring (frank)ed up some major poop.

I thought for sure we would be getting Barrie yesterday. Today, not so much.

Disagree, it's easy to look at Baertschi in the AHL now and Andersson a key player for the Flames but most 2nd round picks don't turn out.

At the time and for the first couple years it was definitely a good JB trade in terms of value and results. Perhaps it was a bad resigning by him but I don't think it was a bad trade.

- belcherbd

This is a false narrative. 2nd round picks are only slightly less likely to pan out. In 2015, the year Calgary selected Andersson, 2/3 of the players drafted are playing NHL games. Some, a significant amount.

the only move i would like to see JB do is to try and offload Sven's contract. The price would be significantly lower than attempting to do what Boston did with Backes for LE.

I think you could package Sven with a prospect (Goldy?) for a 7th/other go-nowhere prospect.

Sven has spent the year without concussion problems, putting up PPG in the AHL... should be some team looking to add depth for the playoffs or vet for a rebuild.

Thanks Tubby I am so much more educated now. How many cups did the Bruins win with Thorton?

How many Did Marleau Luongo or Vancouvers pick Brad Ference at #10 win.

Your organization is instantly better because you're building depth, it may not happen on the ice instantly but your team is better off instantly for sure....oh, and good morning
- LeftCoaster

If someone gives me a quarter I am instantly richer too . I don't think I am doing cartwheels though.
