Last night I wondered why they weren't dumping and chasing as ayers likely would not be great at handling puck. But what is lost in this is how good Carolina shut us down. We had no space..even on the pp

Benning continues to put them in cap hell

Man I wish we could have Ron Lee Emery come back from the dead and run a practice with these boys. That bag skate would be epic.

Giving kids contracts based on their highest potential ceiling out of entry level almost always backfires. It feeds the ego and diminishes determination almost every time.
- aminnes

I'm trying hard to find examples of it backfiring. And just to point out,m Marner is at a 96 point pace, Matthews 60 goal, 100 point pace..

Matthews and Marner are doing better than all those RFAs who signed for 2-3 years....

This is true. The Ayers story has taken away how good his team played.

The argument I always make is that a players prime has moved a couple years up in the new NHL. Once a guy hits 28 years of age it's really hard to justify spending money on them, because you just don't know what you get. In our case I think Muzzin is worth it because of what he brings that we don't have, and the fact that we gave up a first to get him, so it's just so hard to justify moving a 1st for a guy we don't keep when we need his toolset.

I also think the celebrity lifestyle has gotten to guys like Marner. I bet the guy has a blow problem that is affecting his play.

The Hall Eberle, RNH, Lupul, Torres Oilers had the same blow problem.

Stuff happens.

Leaf fans need to take a breath and let last night's game go.

All teams have bad games, this is just more hype than usual.

Leaf fans need to avoid giving this single event too much power.

- spatso

Single event? 3 of last 4 games? Not to mention how many other lack luster performances? I'm just glad UFC was on so I didn't have to watch any more of that (frank)ing embarrassment last night.

Not really, they are in much better shape than those teams and have much more upside and options going forward. Their star players are significantly better than those three.

They are better, yes. The point was the maximum money thing and what it does to young players in terms of motivation. I couldn't care less about their stats, they are paid to win games.

Jesus christ.

You guys have now fabricated a drug addiction for our two best players...

I'm not happy with last night either. But you guys are (frank)ing dramatic.

He's scoring more, but he also has been sloppy with the puck in his own end a lot.

I wouldn't put money on it.

But last night was definitely rock bottom. They now have a chance to either rebound or fold.

Whether drugs or just the celeb lifestyle, they got too much money and respect too young having not earned it yet which rarely works out well.

The thing you are missing is RNH hasn't been a disappointment because of $, he was an extremely weak 1st overall player. Matthews is in another universe.

I think it could. The hysteria around it is typical, but it might be helpful for once.
