Suter isnt the problem in Minnesota right now. Parise and his contract is. Minnesota is still getting good value out of Suter and will do so for the next couple of years. They arent just going to give you Ryan Suter because they dont want to pay him in a couple of years much less for our garbage.
- SuperHenderson13

Right, but if MIN is going to rebuild like they should, then they should get assets in return for their depreciating assets like Suter. By the time MIN is competitive again, Suter will be of no use to them. IMO. However, his contract and roster spot will hamper their rebuild.

Like I said, JJ and Bjug are of almost no consequence to them. JJ can be bought out for $1M (or play him, it doesn't matter) and Bjug's deal expires after next season. Suter's 6 year, $7.5M contract is not something MIN wants going forward, regardless of his level of play right now.

No, you don't get it, we're toast. I know a pack of dogs better than this group of players.

Guentzel isn't replaceable. You'd have to trade away the entire 2021 draft and two top prospects to get a player of his caliber back at this point.
- eNDSo

I'm not saying he is, but if Zucker is 3/4 of the player Guentzel is on a team that got swept by NYI last year, then we need to add something more than just a bottom six F. IMO. Where is all this scoring going to come from? Simon? The defense looks putrid and the goaltending is shaky. Dumo and Marino aren't going to magically fix all of the problems.

The Minnesota Wild are 5 points out of the 2nd wild card with 5 games in hand on the team currently holding that.

And he's about 3/4 at best the player Guentzel is. So if that was the big "get," then just sit this year out.

G is an elite goal scoring wing. We were never gonna replace him.

The hell they aren't, thats 2 of our top 4 Dmen right there. You kidding me with this? Them coming back is like two deadline acquisitions.

Edit: Not ALL the problems but lots of them.

Got this little nugget from Bob Grove. I wanted to post it earlier....

Since the lockout, there's only been 3 cup champs that were sub 50% in faceoffs during the regular season. Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Penguins and...... Pittsburgh Penguins.

Anyway.... I wonder if FLA is going to sell. Dadanov and Hoffman as UFA's. I imagine the asking would be in the Kreider range.

Yep, maybe they aren't sellers. There are very few sellers this year, which is why JR should have been on top of this more than he has been. Maybe he will surprise us, but it seems as if he is going to be chasing now if he wants to find an impact player.

That's crazy never knew that haha, thanks. And with the Panthers, did they say they are sellers? They are still kinda in it but maybe the sell anyways?

Slow down there. Dumo is defense-only and he is coming off major surgery. Marino is a 22 year old rookie. Even if Dumo comes back full-strength which is a BIG if, there is still Petts who is a 2/3 and...JJ. Not great. We are not keeping up with the competition.

Matt Murray and Marcus Pettersson each put blame for the loss on themselves.

Matt Murray: "It’s tough. I’ll take the blame for that one. I think if I make the save on the breakaway on Wilson, it’s a different game. That one’s on me."

Better for Petts to learn the lesson in the regular season I guess.

Of all the goals against, the flubbed glove was the only one I’d put square on MM.

I've always been a big proponent of being proficient on the dot. It makes such a difference at the end of close games.

FLA is only 2 points behind TOR for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic with a game in hand. No way they should be selling. Bob can steal a series or two.

I can't say I've seen many FLA games, but they're not winning the cup this season. They would be insane to not attempt to get assets for those guys.

No, but Zucker plus someone other than Simon at 1RW would go a long way toward that. Adding just a bottom six winger will do virtually nothing.

Dumo isn't "defense only" hes very smart and has great breakout passes, he makes Letang better because of his high hockey IQ. He's an extreme upgrade. Marino is young but he's got those smarts too and brings a good shot and great breakout ability. This helps the forwards out a ton. And yea JJ sucks but bury him on the third pair.

Yea plus that stat was regular season face-off percentage. I wonder what they were during the playoffs? And with Florida if they get in the 3rd seed they are done first round unless Tampa poops the bed again lol

That's probably true, if they get in it's most likely the third seed and they would have to get through Tampa and Boston. Good luck with that

I can't see any way FLA gets through Boston and Tampa. Bob has been a tragic bust for them. If I were Florida, I would look at the landscape of the east and realize we're not getting the cup this season. I understand they likely believe they're "in it", so I expect they won't sell.

While the losses piling up is certainly frustrating, I really admire what this team’s been able to do without their best goal scorer, half their top 4, and with Johnson dragging Letang down. I really think we’ll be a high end contender when Marino and Dumoulin come back.

I agree, but...they are only 2 points behind where STL was at this time last year and they won the Cup with some dude named Binnington. Just sayin'.

I think it's a pretty tough balancing act for a GM, but I think they tend to want to make the playoffs if they have a legit shot, which FLA clearly does. Anything can happen and it means more $$$ for them and increased fan interest (which FLA could use a lot more of). Even if they just pull one upset, that would be pretty huge and might even give them a boost going into next season. But, all that being said, the smart play probably is to get something for their 30 year old pending FAs.
