I saw several say it was about clearing cap space for next season but I haven’t looked into it.

What about the 1-0 loss off a bullpoop lucky goal before? Oh yeah there’s other teams in the east we can play in the playoffs! |

Can anyone explain what TB is thinking there? Is this an Eminger kind of deal? - MJL
Nice to see them on the wrong side of a deal for once. I swear that franchise collectively has a horseshoe up its ass. |

I think it was saving space rather than clearing. Think I read Goodrow makes under 1 M for this and next year. And Coleman is under 2M for next year. |

I like how he did it, too -- honesty about accountability, moving him down in the lineup and allowing him to move back up
You were right earlier in that other coaches/all coaches basically do the same things, but it is nice to know that the Flyers hired someone who, if the players were open to being coached, has shown that he'll help you win games - AllInForFlyers
The sad part about it is that eventually, Vigneault will get fired just like he did in Montreal, Vancouver and NY. He didn't all of a sudden forget how to coach. Players have to buy in and feel comfortable. He has weight behind him and he used it. The team seems happy and is having fun. That's a big part of it.

How is trading a first round pick clear cap space?

you really think the flyers stand a chance in a 7 game series against Tampa, Wash, or Boston? - 2Real
Yes I think they have a good chance in a 7 game series against Wash given the fact that they have points in every game against them this year including recently beating them 7-2.
I think they have as good a chance as anyone does against the Bolts or Boston. |

And hopefully before that happens, we get to celebrate a cup or three.

I think the moves the Flyers made today including other player moves is a tell to what the brass is thinking. I think that factor is what the biggest obstacle is in any 7 game series against a more seasoned opponent. |

There is something special building here. I can feel it. Just don't want them to mess it up.

Didn’t Tampa get swept in the 1st round last year? Stranger things have happened. |

i like our chances against WSH the most. TB to a lesser extent. Pens and Boston would be a tough, war of a playoff series imo. Canes actually as well. if they can get goaltending, they are an elite team. love the way they play. |

If the Canes get decent goaltending I can see them making a run. That said if the goaltending isn’t there then they are dead in the water.
I wouldn’t mind getting the Pens this year. I don’t think that roster is deep enough. |

Any roster with Crosby and Malkin is deep.

I just finished two yoga classes so I apologize if this question is out of left field because I’ve been out of the loop the last 2 1/2 hours.
With Joel Farabee being sent down and the Flyers going with Derek Grant to replace Bunnaman and one would think Thompson sits. Would it be fair to ask the question of, Did we just make space for Nolan Patrick to return? I mean, I’m not so sure I’m comfortable with Laughton at center in a best of 7, as he’s flipped from wing to center this season and frankly he’s a better winger. I almost feel like we need Patrick now. |

i think the possibility of getting Patrick back is definitely part of the picture. it would provide a huge moral boost no doubt, but i question how effective he can really be at this point after missing so much game time. either way we have some serious depth now and will hopefully be prepared no matter what the outcome is with Patrick this year. best case scenario, imo, is he can get back into the line up for 5-10 games and find a bit of rhythm before we gear up for the playoffs. |

I thought the moves today were fine. Surprised they didn’t trade for a depth d instead of Thompson. They must feel real good about Friedman.
The only thing is I don’t like sending farabee down, but he is only 19...he’ll be ok. I think they could use him still |

I think he'll need that conditioning stint in the A, as well as 10 games to have any hope of getting into rhythm. I just worry about him coming in so late in the season not wanting him to get hurt. |

I think Bill kind of spelled it out with a recent blog. They no longer have the ability to send him down to the AHL other than for a few games. I don't think they're going to close the door but the odds of Patrick getting in game shape and in tune well enough to play for a team fighting for a playoff spot is not good. I don't think they trade for two centers if they feel Patrick has a realistic chance to play this season.
