Farabee has averaged 14:47 TOI the last 5 games. Nothing close to 4th line minutes. - PLindbergh31
Didn't the GM address this yesterday when he specifically talked about sending Farabee down to get him more than 4th line minutes because...and here's the kicker...they might need him later in the season.
I mean hypothetically we could discuss ice times over 5 game stretches, 10, 20, etc but literally the GM addressed your specific question as to how this makes the Flyers better. |

Yup!
Fletcher was on Flyers Fix Ep 3 and even said Farabee will be up soon and that we absolutely will need him down the stretch. He wants Farabee to get more offensive time down in the AHL and wants to get his offensive confidence back so he can contribute later. Nothing wrong with that imo |

Ok, then acquire a player to replace Farabee that has a similar skill set. Grant is more than capable playing 4th line center, and he's played well this year. Thompson is redundant and not needed. |

Flyers had limited cap space and were obviously not willing to part with a high level asset to add to the team. That is the right call in my opinion. Thompson slots in as 4th line center and is an upgrade on Bunnaman. Grant is a veteran player who can play wing or center. He will be more able to handle the physical play down the stretch and in the playoffs. He is producing better than Farabee was. It's not hard to figure out. I posted numerous times that I thought the Flyers youth would be their undoing this season. This is an attempt by the team to mitigate that somewhat without giving up a major piece or committing future cap assets. Kudos to them. |

I agree about Thompson. But Grant and Farabee have same point totals. Now, I know this isn't same as skill set but Grant has his different set of skills or advantages such as being able to play all 3 forward positions, his PK work ( 3 SH goals), and he's good at faceoffs. He has to have some hands to an extent if he has 14 goals |

Devils retained half Simmonds salary and probably could have been convinced of more on a count that they’re not going anywhere this season. The 5th round pick the Devils retained was conditional. It might not be one anything. - SuperSchennBros
The max. you can retain is 50%. The Flyers could not have fit him in without sending salary back the other way. |

The rending of garments and gnashing of teeth by the usual suspects has become both predictable and humorous.
Bottom line is that a team that is in the top ten in the NHL got a little better without losing anything.

Well said! Everyone said the same thing on NHL Network when I watched after work.
Even Giroux popped on for a minute and said how happy he was with the moves and that's what their players wanted. |

not the same player
benefit you get a proven NHler with size for the playoff push plus you have more flexibility at the center position. Add in that Farabee and Bunnman can get bigger minutes in the AHL. There will be an injury, one of them will get called back up, maybe both and they will have been playing in a top line roll, you would hope that would help them upon return. While Farabee is good positionally he needs to be a point producer ultimately. The adds play a heavy game, a playoff game, if the Flyers play a finesse team and they need scoring, they could call up Farabee or Frost. I would like Farabee in the lineup but I can't argue with Fletcher on his reasoning.
If Farabee is who he has shown and who we think, he will come back better. |

The Flyers probably would've been able to send a player down and go with a minimum number of forwards and fit him in. However that would've left them with no cap breathing room in case of short term injuries. Simmonds wasn't a fit for this team. Not the kind of player they needed. |

I hope not, he needs to find the perfect situation to continue. Flyers were not a fit anymore and the Devils were poop show. |
