No, not technically. Only players with NMC's are automatically required to be protected (unless they choose to waive voluntarily). But they didn't give up a 1st and a 2nd and maybe a 3rd for him and sign him to that deal to expose him.

I’m just happy they straightened their asses out with Snow and Weight. Seemed like that was close to not happening. Almost like they were considering keeping them before Snow showed up looking like Bill Murray from Caddyshack for that news conference.

Loving all these quotes from Pageau (all the ones about him are great too!)... let's face it, on the open market, he would have gotten at least the deal we signed him too, most likely more. But he was willing to forgo that chance because he has faith in the vision of the coaching staff, the management, and the ownership. Speaks volumes!
