Not to be a Richard, what evidence do you have for this this, other than the 4-6 months the org. told us?
- joecool2931

I'd love to be optimistic about his return but the worst thing they could possibly do is rush Jake back or allow him to come back not at 100%.

Depending on what he did to his shoulder it's a long rehab to rebuild strength and range of movement.

I think it must have been something regarding Kahun for us to get rid of him like this. Chicago made a legit trade in which they were hoping to get a good young 2LD on a good contract. This trade was for spare parts. Poor asset management. They could have gotten more for Kahun or used him in a bigger trade for a legit top 6 forward.

So how much of these trades had Sully's input? He clearly wasn't pleased with Sheary the first time around.

This just couldn't be further from the truth lul

Sheary was undrafted. Sully is the only reason Sheary was on our AHL roster and the only reason he was brought up to the NHL.

They are family bud lul.

But wouldn't you assume the 4-6 months the organization gave us includes that rehabilitation? We don't know what happened nor do we know what stage of recovery he is in. For the past month we have received different updates regarding whether or not he was still in a sling.

You'd think but like you said, we're not even aware of what he did to his shoulder.

To expand: in his post-deadline interview Rutherford said that the coaching staff had a lot of input in the day’s moves. He said that when he put together his list of possible targets, the staff gravitated towards Sheary’s name. They wanted him back.

I definitely think Sullivan is a big Sheary fan. I don’t think he was in the dog house when he was traded, I just think he was expendable at the time after Guentzel emerged and Simon started peeking his head around the corner.

Doesn't hurt that Sheary seemed to have his best performances of the year against us. It looked like he was playing to make the team every time we squared off against the Sabres

I do find it funny that Conor (frank)ing Sheary has somehow overshadowed Patrick Marleau.

After thinking about it, my real gripe with the trade is that I liked Kahun moving forward and think we could have gotten a Sheary level player for not a roster player. As for the on ice product for specifically this season, I don’t think we’re very affected. So yeah, I don’t think it was the Old Man’s best move, but if there was really locker room fit issues with Kahun like someone said earlier I get it and can move on.

It actually illustrates why it is so stupid to acquire Sheary. He obviously doesn't belong there if you need another legit winger to justify his presence. Same goes for Simon.

Bottom line is we traded away a top 6 forward and got two bottom 6 forwards in return, one being a marginal NHL player.

Then we sent a 3rd rounder for yet another bottom 6 player who will be forced to play in the top 6.

Just (frank)ing stupid.

Last year he had 0 goals and 2 assists in 7 playoff games and was a -6, so I'm guessing his old legs are going to be even worse come playoff time this year.

How did Crosby do last year? is he old and washed up too? 0g 1a -4

Even though I hate to defend Sheary he has put up similar numbers playing on Buffalo's 3rd line. I know Kahun mostly played on our 3rd line as well, but I feel like we have stronger 3rd line players than Buffalo (no offense to Buffalo).

Kahun really banked some points with Geno Machino and Elite Level Clip Rust gone off their rockers though.

I think the only problem Sully had with Sheary was defense. I remember reading multiple times he didn't want him on the sane line as Guentzel or Kessel because that would be 2 defensively poor wings, so he was banished to the bottom 6 where he didn't always play with skilled guys.

Supposedly he's become a better defensive player much like Guentzel. But even if he isn't, playing opposite Zucker or Rust should make Sully more comfortable with him in the top 6. And as much as I do like Kahun better, Sheary has put up numbers with Sid that Kahun never has. Maybe this works afterall.

hahaha Super Duper...but like my edit said, Rod isnt really a throw in. Sounds like JR wouldnt of done Kahun for Sheary straight up.

Dupuis was actually considered a throw in with Hossa.

Yeah unlike the fanbase, Sullivan seems to have a good grasp that Sheary is what he is, and while he’s a good player, he is limited and sets expectations accordingly. I never got the sense when Sheary was demoted that he was in the dog house, it was just that we needed a different look.

From the Sabres new blog

"It will be interesting to see if Rodrigues can continue to turn his game around in Pittsburgh. At his best, Rodrigues provides a lot of upside as a top 9 forward, but the Sabres never really got that version of him under Krueger. It does seem a safe bet that he’d be able to re discover that in a high-octane offensive set up like the one the Penguins have."

Everything I have seen so far suggests he is a speedy player with a defensive edge. He can produce, but won't ever be mistaken for top 6. The one article said that in 18-19 he played 11 of the 12 forward positions. I'm GMJR blew one in his trousers when he heard that.

I did see a beat writer say he basically was running out of the Sabres dressing room with his gear he was so excited. That makes me feel good. He's not a youngster so room for growth is minimal, but I'm excited to see what he can bring.

Rodriguez is a decent player with good speed who you'll notice when his game is on. He gets quality scoring chances, but doesn't have excellent finishing skills as he makes great plays only to miss golden opportunities. For whatever reason, he fell into Krueger's doghouse and was healthy scratched often, which lead to Rodriguez requesting a trade out of buffalo. You may be surprised and he lights it up for you guys. Best of luck!

I agree, but i don't think (unprofessional opinion, just recent labrum surgery haver), 100% is as hard to reach in hockey, as it is in say baseball. so if it is a ROM recovery thing, it gives me more optimism than pessimism, to be 4 months rather than 6, since shoulder ROM isn't as vital as it is in baseball.

Thanks! Seems to fall in line with what I have read. I'm hoping our faster paced system will benefit him.
