Now that you got me thinking, I'd take what you did and swap Sheary and Marleau since he can play RW effectively. - Rinosaur

I'd go
Zucker-Sid-Sheary
Marleau-Geno-Rust
Simon-McCann-Horny
Rodrigues-Blueger-Tanev
We know what we have in Sid and Simon, I'd rather see if Sid and Sheary can put up some points and slide Simon down the lineup, maybe try to turn Simon into the "setup man" for McCann. - j.boyd919
Yep, that's what I posted above. Two non-top 6 players in the top 6. |

This makes me sad. I wonder what the hold-up was. Whatever it was, just overpay for a legit player, JR, and quit (frank)ing around with these worthless scraps. - Hockey66
Conor Sheary, no matter your personal opinion of him, is factually/statistically not a scrap. |

19 points this season and 2 goals in his last 34 playoff games says he's a scrap. 34 points the year before and 30 points the year before that. That's Tanev production while being the opposite of the rest of Tanev's game (besides pointless speed in the case of Sheary). |

Marleau couldn't produce in his last season on the best offense in the league and has just 20 points this year. Whether he wants to be or not, he's a passenger at this stage of his career. - Hockey66
Idk I don't think anyone liked Babcock, there was some serious BS going on there. See when we picked up Guerin in 09 I was like ehh it's whatever and he ended up being on the 1st line with Kunitz(who was acquired a little earlier than the deadline, like Zucker) It has that feel to it for me at least. I hope it works out that way. |

But Guerin was a premier power forward back when power forwards were prized and he could still do what he did around the net. Marleau, on the other hand, is a speed and skill guy, who, at 40.5 years old, no longer has the speed or the skill to be effective anymore. Feel-good story, though. I'd rather get him a Cup than Thornton, but I don't see the Pens getting past the 1st round. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but just brace yourself for the Pens going out in humiliating fashion. Again. |

Makes sense to me. I may not have much confidence in him come playoff time, but Sheary has scores alot with Sid. |

Yeah... considering the Caps are 0-2 in the playoffs against the Pens with Sheary on the roster....
If not Sheary it'll be Simon.... i'll take the guy who can finish more than 2% of the time. - Yonk1216
Why not have both play with Crosby?
Sheary-Crosby-Simon
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
Marleau-McCann-Hornqvist

I hear ya. The Pens will likely need to go through Islanders or Philly, Washington, Boston or Tampa. I can't possibly see the wisdom in adding a perimeter player like Sheary for that brutal road. |

Yeah, I just read that. That's fine and all, but bottom line is he still only has 20 points on the season (while getting PP time) and he can't play more than 15 minutes a game. That's not top 6 no matter how you slice it. |

It actually illustrates why it is so stupid to acquire Sheary. He obviously doesn't belong there if you need another legit winger to justify his presence. Same goes for Simon.
Bottom line is we traded away a top 6 forward and got two bottom 6 forwards in return, one being a marginal NHL player.
Then we sent a 3rd rounder for yet another bottom 6 player who will be forced to play in the top 6.
Just (frank)ing stupid. |

When it comes playoff time he'll be fine. I can see limiting his minutes during the rest of the regular season which they can easily do by giving Simon shifts up top as well. |

Last year Marleau produced the same number of points as Kahun(37) yet you claim 1 is a top 6 forward and the other is washed up. |

I actually don't disagree with you on any of this, I'm not really thrilled with the trades, but the Pens could have done worse. I'm actually not thrilled that they gave up Kahun and I don't really understand that trade either. I didn't mind the Marleau trade given the cost was whatever. I would have preferred Namestnikov or Ennis for a 4th over the Kahun for Sheary/Rodrigues trade, but I don't think GMJR did terrible. Could have done better, could have done worse. |

Last year he had 0 goals and 2 assists in 7 playoff games and was a -6, so I'm guessing his old legs are going to be even worse come playoff time this year. |

Depending on who you ask... Some say Sheary is the better player. |
