What was weird to me was with all that activity, the Central was very quiet. Avs in particular sat on a ton of cap space. Winning that division seems like as a good a path as any to get to the Finals.
- Tojo.

Yeah there were a few teams that were more quiet than I thought they'd be like the Avs(dont they have a ton of space?) and the Predators.

Yesterday broke the record for number of trades on TDL. Pretty crazy when you consider all the other deals in the few weeks leading up to it. That kind of activity probably makes it harder to get certain guys you might be originally looking for.

No wonder JR looked so bedraggled.

So after getting a morning workout and some breakfast in with my friend who works inside the organization and a few other organization people. They said JR was looking at bigger trades, but wasn't able to make them due to salary restrictions (they wouldn't go into detail). They believe the Sheary trade was to see if we can catch lightning in a bottle twice and win a cup. If not he is a UFA this offseason so they save some money. They told me JR and a few others are very high on Evan Rodrigues and they feel he could be a solid addition. Before Buffalo the organization as a whole took a step back in overall play/production. Rodrigues was a bright spot for them he is also a right handed shot which we were looking for. I overall get a feeling that this offseason they are going to be making a deal for a top 6 winger. I think we had a solid deadline. We may have landed a long term bottom six option who can play up and down the lineup. We also landed Zucker who will solidify himself as one winger with Crosby (with the potential to get someone else this offseason). He still kept most of our assets and top prospects in the system and we also kept our 3rd round pick this year.

They did not go into detail about Kahun, but they said he was a player who showed flashes of being great, but then would go games without even being noticed. He wasn't very teachable to improve his skills (he wouldn't listen).

Thanks for the info! It's always nice to have context. Interesting about salary restrictions and about Kahun. I figured that might be the case about working bigger trades but couldn't get any to go through and something souring with Kahun. I feel better now haha. I still don't have high hopes for this season but I'll put that aside because what's done is done. The offseason should be good.

I’m very curious to see how things pan out with McCann and Bjugstad. Who will play wing? Both? Does Rodrigues play center?

There will be two odd men out when all are healthy.

They do have a ton of RFAs to sign in the offseason so that might have limited their targets. They also have a lot of guys on IR so I don't know if maybe that affected things. They did sign Namestnikov (for a measly 4th next year) who I was hoping we might get. But yeah, Central was super quiet considering it was a record-breaking TDL.

Haha - If you're careful you can avoid knowing the outcome. Well, I watch almost every game live but missed the last 3 and they lost all 3, so I definitely need to watch the next game live.

Theres no way I'd be avoiding the outcome until after supper the next day. I'd have to completely avoid this place, TSN, Sportsnet and NHL.com....not happening.

Thanks, interesting information. This explains a lot about Kahun and frankly, sounds somewhat similar to what the Chicago fans told us. I specifically recall they said he would disappear for stretches.

I for one will be keeping my eye on Rodrigues. Sounds like he was the key to the deal.

Can someone explain Rodrigues to me? I know nothing about him. I've heard he's a skill guy... I've heard he's good defensively ...I've heard he's a defensive liability.... is he better at center or wing?

When healthy, he's be a scratch right? From what I can tell he wouldnt play over Bjug, Blueger or ZAR, right?

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Sort of feels like an upgrade over Aggozino and Blandisi. Both are gone now so a depth center makes sense. Blueger type player maybe with some speed and skill but not enough skill to make it on that alone. Defensively responsible. I agree I don't know that he plays once some guys get healthy though.

Saw this in a tweet:

"Here’s how much of a veteran Patrick Marleau really is. He has TWO common NHL teammates (Bernie Nicholls, Murray Craven) with 71 years young Pens GM Jim Rutherford.

Nicholls & Craven played in SJ w Marleau in 1997+. Nicholls & JR on 1981-82 LA Kings JR + Craven w Detroit 1982-83"

Also liked seeing that Malkin thinks Marleau is the most underrated player in the league.

I really didnt know too much about Rodrigues either. I looked him up, he was pretty good at Boston. Came 2nd in scoring in the nation his senior year behind Jack Eichel. I guess he got to be some what decent right?

Here are articles of Rodrigues from the Buffalo paper and a player breakdown of his 2018 season.

https://www.diebytheblade...-rodrigues-buffalo-sabres

He lost his confidence a bit this year after showing to be a solid player the previous 2 years. I heard reports that he is ecstatic to be on the Pens so hopefully his confidence is back. I read some of the comments he seems like the perfect fit. He brings speed and grit. Great hands. He is not afraid to go to the middle of the ice if needed. He will do anything that is needed. He works hard and should fit the system.

Thanks for this! I knew there had to be something with Kahun. Seemed like a pretty talented kid to ship him off so soon. If Sully doesn't like a player, you can guarantee he'll be shipped out.

Judging by his time with Buffalo, it's too bad we're getting SHAREy back.....not SHEERy.

I read he played with Eichel, so that probably helped. I mean ZAR was also once an undrafted top college scorer so I wouldn't read too much there. Seems to score enough for a bottom 6 role. We'll see.

Everything I have seen so far suggests he is a speedy player with a defensive edge. He can produce, but won't ever be mistaken for top 6. The one article said that in 18-19 he played 11 of the 12 forward positions. I'm GMJR blew one in his trousers when he heard that.

I did see a beat writer say he basically was running out of the Sabres dressing room with his gear he was so excited. That makes me feel good. He's not a youngster so room for growth is minimal, but I'm excited to see what he can bring.

No I would say the second round possibly, IF we get to the third he should be good to go. But who knows maybe he's healing we'll and can make the second round. But we have to get there first..

Not to be a Richard, what evidence do you have for this this, other than the 4-6 months the org. told us?
