He hasn't performed all that well this year but he's got size, decent/good skating.... I think he can be an effective player in the right setting. - Scabeh
He makes 5.25 until 2023-24, this isnt some coup for Carolina. He just isnt that good. |

Ugh, ya it sucks.
But its only for 1 year....then we have 4.5 in cap space. As oppose to having to still pay Z for 4 more years. |

Not sure why Toronto doesn't just trade Marner for a quality RD. Or even two for what he's worth. The One-Two punch of Mathews and Tavares plus the quality wingers they already have are all the offense they need. You give the goaltending that defense support they need and this team would be fearsome. |

Sure, or they could have walked from Ceci, and kept Marleau, I dunno. Lou screwed up with that 3rd year. |

That may occur.
But the leafs havent had a winger of Marner's skill and hockey IQ is so very long.
If things go off the rails, it will be either marner or willie to go IMO.
If they want to do a shake up.
Hopefully that doesnt occur |

I'm not saying it's a steal for Carolina. They paid a good price to get him.
But will he end up helping them on defense? I'm pretty sure he will, yeah. |

No chance they trade Marner. Theyd trade JT before that IMO. Local kid, young, and a play driver. |

I love how no one ever mentions who these mysterious DMen are we can trade Nylander or Marner for.
What team, other than ones who's GM is Peter Chiarelli trades a 22 year-old who had 94 points last year and on a pace for 96 this season?
Name the DMen.

Sure, but so would a similar player for a lesser cost, or even a rental until they get back Hamilton/Pesce. Seems like an overpay to me, but I guess its better then adding Pageau(1st/2nd) then paying him 5M/6 years. |

If we kept Lou our 4th line would be making 12+ per. Dude is horrible at managing the cap. |

I think JT has a full no move though, he would have to agree to being traded. |

Matthews and JT won't be traded... Nylander is by all accounts living up to his contract now.
As bad as it may be, Marner may be the one traded. |

Leafs are fine for the playoffs I believe. I have said for weeks, they ONLY have to edge out Florida....and Florida always seems to fall short in March and early April. But, looking at round 1 vs Tampa or Boston. Don't give them much of a chance. Anything CAN happen, but both Boston and Tampa are much better built than Toronto, especially for a playoff series. I think Leafs get in by 3-4 points....then out in 6. |

I think if this season goes completely off the rails then anything can happen.
Dubas' press conference effectively put this season on the players.. They need a good response tonight. |
