And right on cue, somewhat-good news:
Arthur Staple @StapeAthletic
6m
Sounds like Andy Greene, Michael Dal Colle and Cal Clutterbuck are day to day and will travel with #Isles to St. Louis this afternoon. Game vs. Blues game tomorrow night.

When did they make that automatic misconduct rule? Is that new this year? seems excessive. - niteislander
Nope since they put the instigator rule in, its always been 17 minutes 5, 2 and 10 |

Trouba hit was technically a "legal hit"... but.. that is the type of hits they are trying to take out of the game. If a guy doesn't see the hit coming and you have the ability to not hit him.. then your supposed to not send him into next week.. especially when the initial contact is head.
it is what it is.. I don't really mind how the calls went down after the hit (once I realized the instigator carried an automatic 10 min misconduct too). but I would bet a lot that if that hit was made by a player with a reputation like Martin, Wilson, Lemiuex, etc. it would have been called at the time.

I think you are confusing that with the blindsided hits. They will never take the Trouba hit out of hockey. That was a text book check to somebody who looked like he was learning to skate and stick handle at the same time Can't be staring at the ice like that |

Just talked to Trotz. Dal Colle, Greene, Clutterbuck will make the trip. Only players who won't are Cizikas and Pelech. Dal Colle and Greene will be re-evaluated tomorrow. #NHL #Isles
So we will have two of Greene/MDC/Dobson/Ladd in the lineup tomorrow against STL |

I hear u.. but I still think they are moving towards the "defenseless player" stuff that the NFL does now... I have heard that term a few times already.
and Yes... 100% MDC needs to be smarter. |

If MDC is "day to day" with a head injury he should probably spend that day at home and not on a plane, but what do I know. |

Dunno man. I’ve watched the hit multiple times now, and I don’t think MDC could’ve done anything different.
Legal hit on a bad pass. Unfortunate but not unheard of. |

Has anyone confirmed that he has a concussion? Or is he still only in protocol? |

Nobody has confirmed anything, there's no word that it's a concussion or even a head injury. He could have a bruised lung for all we know |

That’s what I figured.
He (MDC) looked a little stunned last night after the hit, but not wobbly. I’m hoping he got lucky and dodged the concussion. |

Ok they’re not completely banged up if they’re making the trip so I guess that’s good news. |

He was defenseless because he had his head down. You take that hit out you might as well take out all hitting that doesn't occur along the boards |

When Greene went down, I thought to myself, "Oh, %$#@!, he's probably done for the season." Good news. |

19. Both Andrew Ladd and Zach Parise waived their respective clauses to switch teams. It’s going to take some time to figure out what happened here, but here’s the best I can give you at this time: This move was on the table last summer, but then-Wild GM Paul Fenton rejected the idea. Both sides revisited it over the past few weeks, but the issue was money. Parise has $37 million in cap room to go after this season, although only $19 million is cash. Ladd has $16.5 million in cap room, $12 million in cash ($9 million of it is signing bonuses; Parise has no more).
There were all sorts of issues to consider on keeping money, sweeteners to do so, etc. (There were rumblings Kieffer Bellows was going to be in the deal, for example.) People were concerned about Lou Lamoriello’s reaction if it got out prematurely. For very legitimate reasons, Minnesota was concerned about cap-recapture issues if Parise retired early — although I’m sure the Minnesota native would be amenable to solutions. It’s not an easy deal to make, and who knows where it goes from here.
20. I do believe the Islanders also had interest in Mikko Koivu, who preferred to stay put.

edit: Oh, and:
30. On the other end, the Islanders are last in power-play opportunities with 146. Lowest in a full season since the NHL began keeping records is 191, by the 1977–78 Atlanta Flames.

If he was/is, MIN should have been/better be eating like half of Parise's contract. Otherwise that's a bad deal. |

Exactly and as much as I wanted Parise at the deadline I think in the long run we'll be happy the deal didn't go down |

Honestly you couldn't ask for a better debut then last night for Pageau He fits right in with this team. They need another winger to play with him and Bailey. I love that MDC hustles all over the place but he lacks the skill to play on that line. MDC is a cheap 4th line option and nothing more |
