And what about defensive zone faceoffs ? - jdfitz77
risto: 8
dahlin: 2
the hilarious part tho is risto has 3 d zone shift starts and dahlin has 2, so the avalance had 5 offensive zone draws once risto already got on the ice.
which tells you what we all already know, risto gets on the ice and the other team is immediately glued in our end |

So what that all sounds like to me is that Risto couldn’t get the puck out against MacKinnon
Who was Dahlin playing against when he started in our own end?
This is the problem with u analytics guys
You’re constantly emphasizing that stats that fit your narrative,
and leave out the complete story...
which sheds a great deal of light on why that stats came out the way they did |

I'm not a huge fan of Montour, he's tasked with being Ristolainen's partner while playing LHD. I'm curious how Montour would perform playing his natural position with a quality partner. - kingcong39
The team will be better if they move one of them off the roster and the guy that stays plays with Pilut |

or basically any time risto is on the ice minus those few games where him and pilut were good together - robz228
I'm so sick of hearing about those two playing well together for a few games over a year ago.

Evidence would suggest he can't get the puck out against anyone. Dahlin gets sheltered, no doubt, but both statements can be true. |

Off topic.
Max Pacioretty scored tonight giving him 30. In this era, has there been a more boring 6-time 30 goal scorer? |
|
|
|
naturalstattrick has risto with 6 offensive zone faceoffs and dahlin with 5
risto definitely had the harder opponents, about 9 mins toi vs mackinnon vs dahlin's 2
risto also got crushed by compher/donskoi/jost where dahlin went about even vs them - robz228
Risto Got crushed by compher line and Dahlin was even vs them yet game winning goal was the compher line vs dahlin/miller. Dahlin couldn’t get possession in the corner and miller leaves compher alone in front for.m no apparent reason

dahlin took 0 faceoffs when mackinnon was on the ice
he had 6 on the fly shifts against mackinnon
his 2 dzone faceoffs were against jost/donskoi/compher and he had 44% xGF% against them
for comparison risto had 2 offensive and 3 netural zone and 0 defensive starts against jost/donskoi/compher and had 4% xGF against them

Anyways... how do u view Mitts?
Ready to give up & move him?
Still think he can become a good top6 player? - jdfitz77
I'd absolutely move him in a package for a guy like Trochek. At this point I doubt he'll ever be a 60 point center. I dont think he's a 20 goal scorer, so 15+35 is his ceiling imo. And I'm not at all sure he gets there |

risto had 0.6% xgf in 8 minutes and change against mackinnon, and 11% xgf in 8 minutes and change against everyone else
so yes his badness was inflated by mackinnon, but even against anyone else he was meteorically bad |

Evidence would suggest he can't get the puck out against anyone. Dahlin gets sheltered, no doubt, but both statements can be true. - Michael Ghofrani
The reality of the situation is we have 4 RHD men that are realistically #4/#5 d-men on a good team. Risto would be fine if sheltered him with heavy offensive zone minutes but so would the rest of them.
To me Risto is the odd man out. We can’t afford to have a $5.4M dollar PP specialist who needs heavy sheltering to be effective. Especially when he will be getting a pay day in 2 years. It just makes too much sense to move him. |

I thought you stopped watching?
Risto is a proven 40 point defenseman on some pretty subpar teams.
He may not have the best advanced numbers , but for some reason hes been our best defenseman for the last 6 years. He has consistently been matched against other teams best players.
He is a very enjoyable guy to watch in person.
Maybe that's wheres the difference in opinion ?
I appreciate his entertainment value |

risto usually gets torched in corsi and does alright in xgf, and i usually like to think he does alright at eating up the hardest minutes and not getting scored on
tonight is a weird night to defend him though. he got slaughtered. |

Gotta wonder what his value is at this point. But it only takes one of 30 GMs to get dumb or desperate. |

I've heard a couple things. The consensus from the tid bits that I heard is that Mitts wasnt part of it. Risto + Johnson/Samuelson and potentially another thing |

The result of being consistently matched against opponents best players has been six season of pretty subpar teams |

That’s a damn fair offer. Too bad its time is gone.
I dump on Casey from time to time but really I rather keep him. I really don’t want to give up on him now. He could be good. Let’s see how he shows up to training camp. |
