U have links to show they were requested trades this season?
I haven’t heard about that
Reportedly, the players LOVE playing for Ralph
And they’re having their best seasons yet
And we are getting better
Those are reasons to stick around
Not saying they can’t go elsewhere
But it’s FAR from a forgone conclusion - jdfitz77
my gut says larsson here is a contract, take it or leave it
sign lazar if larsson backs away
same with girgens and simmonds
we really only need 2 of those 4 and stuck with okposo

I guess this is just ridiculous topic of the day to debate
It’s crazy to me to not want to bring back players that are coding a very good job filling their roles
You build around that, not create more holes
I’m still waiting for how “easily replaced ROR is” |

Can't say that last part fitz. ROR is not a 4th liner. 4th liners are easier to replace...
Larsson you keep. Girgs is replaceable. He's doing well with Larry and Okie, you're right. Doesn't mean another player can't produce 20 points to literally replace his production. Isn't like our PK is doing well... |

Style of play, age, physicality and agility really come into play here.
JPG is in the midst of a career year with an out of control shooting percentage. Trocheck is physical, down year, has a few big injuries to his name. Both about the same age.
I'd say short term, JPG regresses and Trocheck bounces back. Long term, I think Trocheck declines quicker. - TheSabresTaco
Trocheck has 2 years left, JPG has 5 now.
I'd take the risk on Trocheck, I wanted no part of JPG as your buying at his all time high.

The 20pts isn’t where the value come from
It’s from tilting the ice against other teams top lines
And these guys aren’t your typical “4th line”
They play in the toughest situations
U can’t just insert someone else in that role and assume they’ll be good at it |

Well first, I said skaters.
So.. Foligno. McNabb. Byron. Gaustad. Bottom 6/4 super duper impact players.
And Afinogenov. In the (frank)ing 90s. THE (frank)ING 90s. |

I wouldn’t have given up a 1st for him
But i would’ve signed him to that contract as a UFA
$5mil per would be a bit pricy for a 3C once Cozens passes him on the depth chart,
but i also think Pageau would be one of the best 3Cs in the league |

It's all about value to me.
Lazar is as good as Larson, is younger and hopefully cheaper
Go get a younger cheaper 13th F.
I want to see more of Simmonds here for the remainder if the season. I suspect he was playing on a high last night, let's see how he fits in 10 games from now. He looked good last night here, if he stays that way, I'd resign him for a year.

Said skaters, not goalies. So, are you saying it's been like 20 years for anything impactful? Cause that's what it sounds like you're saying. |
|

It’s not any more of a cop out than assuming $3mil per (like you’ve said) and that they’d decline while still in their 20s
And u give that 3rd year to keep the salary a little lower hopefully
No one is saying to sign these guys to a 4 year deal at $3mil apiece
Obviously there’s gotta be a walk away point - jdfitz77
Talking about the limit is much more interesting than saying you'd bring him back on a team friendly deal. That's just boring.
I think Larrson's comps put him at 2.5m. 3m is on the high end. The question then was: would you sign him for 3x3, if that's what it took to keep him from testing the market. Still think that is a very reasonable question. There's plenty of reasons to think he'd want to see his options.

Lazar & Larsson are close, i agree
But that doesn’t mean we know that Lazar can be as effective as Larsson in that very tough role he’s playing
At a savings of what, $1mil... why risk it?
And anyways... bring them BOTH back

I agree with this. I’d even go 3 years with Larry if that’s what it took. He’s a Selkie level defender. |

I’d probably say no
But you realize you’re just talking about worst case in every angle of this discussion, right?
I just don’t have any reason to think it’ll all go so wrong
But i guess I’m just more positive about the situation than you? Idk
Also...
i don’t think 2mil is necessarily “team friendly”
I think it’s very close to fair |

At some point, cost management comes into play here.
You just can't over pay at every position. It a vacuum, one can successfully argue to over pay a player. But when you have Skinner, Okposo and Johanson all over paid by a cullulative $6m it makes managing the Cap properly very difficult. |

That's the task of most bottom6 groups. Try to get offensive zone draws while limiting the chances of opposing top lines.
Right around 2.5M though, you can sign a defensive forward to do the same thing for less. Sheahan, Maroon, Brassard, Clifford, Schaller, Fast, Archibald, Pitlick, Thompson, Boyle....all under 1.5M salaries, similar point production and all are deployed in bottom6s playing against opposing top lines. |

True
But i also see teams navigate the Cap every year
So when it comes down to key spots,
I’ll “overpay” for now- even knowing all the little overpays will add up eventually
Okposo won’t be here forever either
Look... I’d love to be Tampa...
but we have to accept that we aren’t
Not yet, and maybe not ever
But you keep good players that make a difference in the roles they play
And you build around them to the beat of your ability
That’s how i see it anyways |

Don't fall for it.
He's 27 years old having a career year. You might squeeze a year or two of 50ish points out of him but he's probably going to drop back to being a 30~ point guy pretty quickly. |
