He has though. Just not recently in this slump.
The coach doesn’t like him. Period. Whether it’s Skinner’s fault or Kruegr’s.
Can you justify in anyway shape or form how Jimmy Vesey has gotten more preferential treatment?
He’s still producing at a second line level in terms of primary production 5 on 5.
He can’t force Krueger to put him back on PP1 - sbroads24
Call em old fashioned but when you know your not liked by the coach your effort goes way down. The human side of his production is what hurts the most. Losing and being in the dog house is not a good recipe for success. |

Probably can't move him right now unless you eat a big chunk of his salary.
Probably don't want to, either.
Give him an offseason to reset and try again next year. - BINGO!
He’s an every other year guy.

Basically. there's an outlier or two in there but they're situational.
It gets easier when you accept that. |

He is a volume shooter. That’s pretty much it. He is Evander Kane with a full brain instead of have of one.
Which is unfortunate because with the cap crunch coming up we could of used the $9M in cap space.
We’d be picking in the same spot in the draft regardless, he has been completely irrelevant this year.

I completely understand it, but the team is culpable too, don't you think? If I hire a sales person and don't put them in a position to succeed is it the hire's fault or managements?
Last year Skinner played with a wold class center, and good winger, this year....
Just sayin... - hehateme
I know exactly your point, and you are probably 80% correct with hanging it on linemates...you may not remember but I did the research to compare his various Danger shots (Low, Medium, High) this season to last season on a per game basis; and both Medium and High are down very, very significantly (19% and 50% respectfully)...alot of which is tied to his quality of linemates, but also his TOI, PP time, as well as his own level of driving the line.
He isn't completely a victim here...and that is the central part of the argument
Apparently, his dwindling TOI is tied to effort level..both game and practice observed by the Coaching Staff doing their job. They have reportedly tried individual coaching with him to improve his game.
If he is truly loafing, then HE needs to take accountability
It's worse when being paid, what like top 10%, 5% of the league and being a core player. |

I said this 3 months before he even signed the deal. Except I don’t compare myself to a fictional character from Game of Thrones. |

I do believe with a quality center on a down year you’re looking at 25 and 20 and an on year of 35 and 25.
It is what it is. |

NHL Coaches Jeff Skinner's had:
Paul Maurice
Kirk Muller
Bill Peters
Phil Housley
Ralph Krueger
This is his 10th NHL season and the problems he had when he started are the same problems he has today.
That's not really a coaching issue. That's just a "This is who he is" issue. You gotta find a way to maximize what you get out of that. - BINGO!
Correct
You take the good with the bad especially since he's signed long term
You HAVE to find a way to use him correctly |

His ice time is dwindling because we play a defensive structure and the guy can’t defend. Nor is he scoring. So what good is he right now ? |

Really? Is this a fact?
I saw yesterday on the news them reporting the mortality rate for the flue was I think 0.3% while the Coronavirus was at 2.1%
Individual number may be off, but the point was a significant difference. |

8 year contract says he should be able to drive a line. Forget the cap hit for a minute, it’s the term that is downright dreadful. I was told we couldn’t let him walk though, I fail to see the difference having him on this roster this year or not and that’s $9M in cap space we don’t have to work with next year. |

He's the 16th highest paid forward in the NHL.
He's the 231st highest scoring forward in the NHL.
That's the primary issue. If you're paying him like Crosby you don't necessarily need him PLAY like Crosby, but you'd at least like Phil Kessel level stuff. |

Would have been nice to know thus before signing him to his deal.
Hmmm, I wonder if the management team lead by Botterill has learned this lesson...
Looks at line up, see Olo and Sam with Jack for entire year...both who need new contracts.
Nope. |

Sounds about right to me. Just shelter him a little bit and let him feast on matchups against bottom pair D instead of trying to force him to play a game he's no good at. |

The numbers cited were sheer volume. There are far fewer cases of Coronavirus than the flu currently, so naturally the % is going to be higher. |

Very good post... I am on your side 100%, Skinner has blame for sure, but like you said I place about 20% of the blame on him. he can skate his tail off in practice every day and I doubt it would change a thing on the ice during an actual game...

How is he not currently sheltered ? Do you think teams are throwing their top d-pairs out there when our “4th line” in terms of ice time is out there ? |

2 goals in 3 months is not second line level in any terms. Slump or no slump. Every regular on the team, except McCabe and Miller, have more goals than Skinner in that timeframe. Lazar playing 5 minutes less per game with zero PP time has twice as many goals. Skinner is still averaging 2:32 PP time and still second on the team in shots.
Whatever the problem is, he needs to figure it out. If he wants to play with Jack, then he needs to earn it. The coach doesn't feel like he's earned it. No one cares what he did last year, it's all about what he's doing this year. |

Thing that bothers me the most is his stick work, he is bad against the boards, most games he doesn't know how to use his linemates. |
