Name a good player or a half decent player but not perfect who once wore a Flyers uniform that you didn’t care for.

Go!

Great topic. I'm going with Jeff Carter. Yes, I was initially excited about his skills (esp. his shot), but was never a fan of his all around game. Obviously super talented but often seemed like he didn't really care out there to me. And he just seemed like a spoiled brat from day 1. Difficult personality to like/root for for me.

Surprised to see all the Recchi hate. I always liked him a lot. Don't really remember the reputation as a diver. Not sayin it didn't happen, I just don't remember him that way

According to some women I met while waiting for a Knuble autograph at Skate Zone, Carter's nickname was "Beer can," but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be ironic or not.

Definitely was going to say him. He could show flashes of high end skill when he wanted to, just never did it regularly. So annoying.

One game, he was going to be a healthy scratch. Someone got hurt in the pregame skate and they couldn't find Zherdev to fill in because he had already left the arena in a limo.

After that, done.

That's funny. I heard a teammate of Carter had a similar nickname. Jody Shelley was "tomato can"

Yeah I don’t get the Recchi hate either. To say he was half-way decent is a bit disingenuous. He’s a HOF’er who finished with over 1,500 points and still holds the team record for most points (123 pts) in a season.

Coming into town Thursday from Toronto to watch the Rangers game with my 3 sons .
Any ideas of where to go on a Thursday night ( sports bars, casino's, restaurants)
and any suggestions for a pre game bar before going to the game Friday.
Any info would be appreciated

- 3flyerkids

I love Chickie and Pete’s and xfinity live like others have suggested....Johns Roast Pork has some wicked cheese steaks and is @ 6 dollar cab ride from stadiums. I make the same trek a couple times a year..hopefully the snow stops so you can get out Thursday....should be ok.

Haha. Reminds me of Borat. He would describe himself to women as being thick like can of Pepsi.

Loved Obi Wan Knuble. Although if was short lived, he was the one that had surprisingly amazing chemistry with Forsberg, right? Wasn't it those two & Gagne on a line together?

Yeah, but can anyone consider Bullard a good or even decent player?

Yep, Deuces Wild.

And as much as he was a good guy on the ice and locker room (only 3 career fights, 1 was against Therien), dude was kind of a Richard to fans, from my 3 times meeting him.

I went back and looked.. he had a 50 goal season with Pittsburgh. Yeah, prior to arriving with the Flyers, I would call him "decent". With the Flyers, not so much. He certainly didnt bring a lot of effort.

25 - 38 (Grant) - 18
12 - 44 (Thompson) - 62

The new guys need time to learn the system and develop chemistry with new linemates.

Thanks

Any guesses how long it will be before Farabee is back up with the team?

I think he’s hit the rookie wall a bit and can use some time in the AHL, but I feel they are a better team with him in the line up.

It’s a nice luxury to have depth enough to let the coach and GM try out different line ups to see what works, and still keep up in the playoff picture.

Another lower-tier guy that drove me nuts was Peter White. I used to call him White Privilege because the only reason he was in the lineup was cuz he was Clarke's son-in-law. He brought absolutely nothing to the table for the Flyers, but never got benched (Yes, I'm aware that he was a very productive AHL player).

That's very interesting concerning Carter and his all around game. His all around game was actually very strong. He played on the PK and was used in matchups against top lines a lot due to his solid play away from the puck. It's interesting how myths develop about really good player and how they're underappreciated. Carter was one of those players.

There is no such thing as a player on an NHL roster due to who he is related to. To suggest so is absurd. When teams have a lack of talent, they use veteran stop gap players. White was one of those. He was a high level AHL scorer but he remade his game into becoming a decent role player who played well defensively. That's why he was on the roster, not because he was Clarke's son in law.

Easy one for me... I've never been, nor ever will be, a fan of Jeremy Roenick.

In the same vein, neither Amonte or Adam Oates were at all impressive or impactful as Flyers.

I think a few games at least. I didn't notice Grant/Thompson all that much. Thompson did have a really good scoring chance though, unfortunately couldn't bury it. I think they tried getting Grant an empty net goal in the 3rd too, but the puck hopped over his stick, if I'm remembering right.

Me, too -- just never felt anything for the player

Just one of those guys who is productive but I just couldn't put my finger on why he was just another guy for me

- AllInForFlyers

He was part of the problem in that Playoff series (2000 or 2002ish I think) vs. Ottawa where Chechmanek was hung out to dry just about every game.

Recchi. Diving diver who dove.

Also a Hall of Famer who holds the franchise single-season point record, had b2b 100 point seasons and a 91-point season in his second stint (during NHL dead-puck days), member of the 50-goal club and a well-liked teammate.
