Eric Lindros is my 1-A and John LeClair is my 2-B of all time Flyers but if you hated Lindros, I can’t argue with you. Growing up outside of Philadelphia, you guys probably have no idea how hated Lindros was outside of your area. When you talk about him refusing to put on the Quebec Nordiques jersey at the draft. His fathers antics behind the scenes. The fact that he sat out a year before going to New York. There is a lot of hockey lovers that did not like Eric Lindros.

I think the only thing for a Flyers fan to not like about Lindros is the way his time in Philadelphia ended. It could have ended so differently. The fact his last game as a Flyer was him being scooped off the ice with a spatula was very disappointing. There is no way of knowing, but I feel pretty confident had the Stevens hit on Lindros not happened, the Flyers not only win that game, but go on and win the Stanley Cup.

Prior to 2000 I was a very optimistic Flyers fan that believed I'd see a few Stanley Cups, that game changed my outlook in a big way.

Kent Manderville could probably use a few bucks, why not slip him a $5 and have him sign stuff for a few hours?

He won’t return my calls since he destroyed my 401k with his junk bond idea.

You know what? He’s a much better player than I expected, and a part of that might be talent around him. I actually don’t think he’s as funny as people make them out to be. Something about mono tone people don’t make me laugh.

I won't lie, at first I was worried he could clash with some of our long-tenured guys. Maybe rub them the wrong way or even annoy them. But it really seems Giroux and Jake and the rest of team really embraced him. I was even skeptical of him and Giroux being friendly until recently when Giroux praised him a ton on a podcast

Good lord Detroit is awful. 34 points.

THIRTY FOUR POINTS!?

Nedved had a 99 point season...a decade before we got him.

Yes but Sanderson was half decent while he was here.

Exactly, it always puts a smile on my face. Can't wait for Pitt to face the music one day.

I’ll never forget his return to that Devils series. We pull the goalie and Lindros gets the lone goal in the loss. Next game, I’m late to get home in time for puck drop. I turn off on the game and they’re highlights of him being dragged off the ice by I wanna day Adam Burt and John LeClair?

Good memory. It was Burt and Leclair. That image is burnt in my memory.

Second most devastating moment in my career as a Flyers fan. First was him getting traded. My least favorite season overall, even though we were still good, was when Lindros sat all year.

I thought that hit was the end of Lindros' career. How crazy is it, the next two years after the hit once he took the Flyers jersey off were the healthiest of his career. I think he played 150+ games.

Not really an image, but that man-gasm sound that Panger makes when the hit happens is etched in my memory. I actually don't mind Pang now as analyst, but every time I hear or see him I hear that noise

You know what else pissed me off, during the 2003 NHL finals, when that POS Scott Stevens obliterated Paul Kariya with that away from the puck cheap shot, what did Kariya do? Got up and scored the game winning goal.

They have a goal differential of -113. The Senators are the next closest at -50. Thought that was a misprint when I first saw it.

He also buried a shot about a half second too late to send the game into OT

From excitement, nervous energy, euphoric optimism, to zero hope in a nano-second. There isn't a Flyers fan alive who thought they'd win that game after that happened. And if they say they did, they're lying.

Geoff Sanderson is the best player on this list

Lindros is the Flyers all-time regular season points-per-game leader (was top 5 in NHL all-time points-per-game as of the time the Flyers portion of his career ended). In top 3 in playoff points per game in franchise history. Won a Hart Trophy, finalist the year after that (no one was beating Mario that year). Would likely have been a finalist a third time if not for the collapsed lung. He was a physical force.

In short, Lindros was everything he was supposed to be as a player, when you filter out the drama, the injuries and the fact that every team lining up to trade Quebec for his rights was offering packages that no one player alone -- no matter how great -- could make up for.

If you only look at Lindros on the ice as a player, he was one of the all-time greats. Just wasn't on the ice enough.

- bmeltzer

Lindros is the best Flyers player ever
