looking ahead to free agents next year;

my top targets on D;

R. Pulock pending RFA, Islanders will have 11 million in cap space to sign 8 players and Barzal will be the top priority and also take the bulk of that space, working out a trade for Pulock may be an option??

Pietrangelo ufa - Blues will have 7 million in cap space to sign 7 players, trying to fit AP's new salary of 7-9 million under the cap will take a lot of moves.

Tanev and Hamonic would round out my top 4 but I'd pay the least for these two, CANT go over 3 year deals and has to be under 4.5 mil per year!! these have risk

*all these D are right shot

Top targets at Center;

*sadly I don't see any pending UFA's worth going after

RFA's I wonder if could be traded for ( i'm not mentioning guys like Luc Dubois or Barzal cause they are going no where )

Domi
Nolan Patrick
then theres a gap to these two;
Jost
Borgstrum

Honestly, as Niku and Heinola continue to grow their game, the Jets may be ok. Maybe a guy like Vatanen could help round off the core, and would likely sign a 2-3 year deal around 5M AAV. If anything, target Hoffman to bring some added offensive threats. Just imagine:

Connor Scheifs Wheels
Ehlers Copp Laine
Perrault Raslovic Hoffman
Harkins Eakins Appleton Lowry as an extra C

JoMo Pionk
Heinola Vats
Sbisa Niku Poolman as an extra D

Ideally a C would be added, but the UFA options seem very limited. Vats and Hoffman are my two favourite options, as I expect them to both sign for lesser cap and term. Both have never been overpaid, and are steady producers.

Anyone notice that after Laine got hurt, the team played great defense in our own zone. Is it me, or is he still a liability?

We may be about two weeks away from sporting events starting to get canceled. If coronavirus keeps progressing at what might become a parabolic rate then it may not matter who makes the playoffs. All the rental buyers in the last minute trade deals may have gotten shafted and Ottawa ends up being the big winner. Let's hope for all our sakes I'm wrong though.

Not disagreeing and honestly haven’t paid a ton of attention but this is why I’m very confused;

To date Corona has killed roughly 2800

The common flu will kill roughly 18k - 45k this year.

Are they expecting Corona to morph into something worse or somehow become something more dangerous than the common flu this year?

The mortality rate from Covid-19 is thought to be about 1%, about 10 times higher than common flu. It is also more dangerous to people without compromised immune systems than the common flu.

If stock markets continue to be hammered by Corona the NHL may opt to keep the salary cap to a more modest increase in anticipation of less money being out there.

lets not get too carried away with our praise of Laine. I don't think he has been very good, just that he finally took some steps forward to improve his overall game. There is hope for the future that his game will continue to evolve and turn into something formidable.

Curious as to why? I think his 200’ game has been better than 55 & 26 this year. I like how he’s been hitting and playing in both ends.
If you do t think he’s been very good I’d love to hear who has on the Jets then because Besides Helly good luck making a case for any of them being better all around than Laine.

He sometimes hits in both ends, not consistent. Until this year hitting was his 2nd best attribute, he has added passing in the o-zone to his game and this is now a strength.

He is not quick on his feet - and likely never will be quick - and this compounds some positioning problems. This too will improve with experience. He has been more committed to get up and down the ice this year.

I hate that he can't win a puck battle for the life of him and turns 50/50 pucks into a retreat. Also really frustrated when he attempts to carry the puck over the blue line into traffic - giveaways every game this way. It seems that his linemates have to accomodate him and assist him with zone exits. I would like to see more motion when he sets up to shoot - his travel is typically less than 10ft. OV would move about 25ft to find a shooting lane.

He will get better, don't know how soon. I have a Laine poster up, but wouldn't be heartbroken if he gets moved to an eastern conference team. I wouldn't want him to find his game with another team in the west.

He is still a liability.
Other than perhaps on the power play, he was not missed on the 5 on 5 portions of the game.
I hope that while he had his icepack on, that he watched Ovie play and maybe he learned from the master.

Everything you just said applies to all Jets and in my opinion worse than Laine.
55 and 26 for example get way to free a pass on here
