At 24, soon to be 25 years old, I would have thought he might see a few this season. I think we all might be over-rating his play.
When they called players up they chose Brisebois and Chatfield over the other defenders. Brisebois is the guy I think has the most realistic shot at making team next season. - Reubenkincade
This could also be interpreted as them not wanting to call him up to either sit in the press box or play minimal time when he could easily stay in the AHL developing with lots of ice time.
There's also the unwillingness to give rookies ice time while in a playoff race.
I think they move on from Stecher in the summer and give Rafferty a clean shot at that spot in the fall.
It's funny because I've never been a particular fan of Rafferty and I think Vantel greatly overrates him, but he has been too good this year to not earn some ice time in the NHL. |

I have been following Rafferty for a few years and thought he might get some time this season. I am not sure if they are concerned about his defensive ability, as Brisebois appears to be the defensive rock on that pairing.
Although his point totals are there, i dont think his skating/edge work is up to par.
I am getting the feeling he may be another McEneny,
Also, Benning has been a Brisebois guy for a long time. I think he gets his chance, next season. |

The waiver wire hysteria will be epic the next few years. Canucks will actually have players other teams will want. |

So....Everyone else’s cap situation sucks so no big deal?
There will be competition for cap dumps to those few teams able to take on bad contracts. Should make the price go up to get rid of a Baertschi or a Beagle. - 1970vintage
#teamwhiner don't have much left to whine about so the 'cap issues' it is lol |

Yes, pretty much. There’s no business at in the world where companies don’t run up against caps, you adjust and move. So, ya considering were in the same boat as most teams... it does kind of indicate it’s no big deal. Don’t worry, there will be no shortage of other hens claiming the sky is falling with you |

So true. However certain generations seem unable to grasp concepts presented in text unless they are formatted to read like tweets. Maybe this will help:
Ottawa has purged their roster of most veteran players and the team now has a new younger core. They have several promising prospects on their farm team that will likely graduate to the NHL next season.
The Ottawa Senators will be in need of veteran leadership to help support their young roster.
Ottawa needs to find a way to spend $21MM+ on salaries next season just to get to the NHL’s mandatory cap floor.
Ottawa have no significant RFA's to sign or extend that would be a significant boost to their payroll for next season.
The UFA's Ottawa has that they might want to re-sign are bargain basement guys. Bringing them back won't get them much closer to the cap floor.
Higher profile UFA's at bigger contract values are unlikely to want to sign in Ottawa because the team has now bottomed out and won't be a playoff contender any time soon.
Ottawa's owner Eugene Melnyk is as cheap as they come.
After his July signing bonus has been paid, Louie Eriksson will take up $6MM in cap space next season with only $1MM of actual salary dollars payable. - YeOldTimer
I would imagine they will spend that money on players with value, but it’s possible we trade LE to them or Seattle. I just don’t think it’s likely and they certainly wont be looking ti just fill that void for the sake of the cap floor, that’s stupid. There’s at least 12 teams that they could take advantage of with that extra space. |

I like Barry Trotz's comments when picking up Pageau. The picks we gave up to get him are nothing . A lot of picks will never play. |

nice over reaction. Suggesting that the team has salary cap concerns isn’t the same as saying the sky is falling. |

That's why he is only a coach and not a GM. What a f*cking stupid thing to say. |

Cap problems . Maybe they will play with only 16 man roster. |

Coaches don’t care about draft picks. They care about NHL players. They are only worried about the next game, not the next season. That’s for fans and scouts to worry about. |

Saying a 1st and 2nd round picks are nothing is plain stupid. That's like saying Pettersson and Hughes are useless. |

It was meant as a jibe, i think we’ve got as much cap issues as the majority of teams. Less than many of the teams we are competing for playoff spots with... so ya, he’s got work to do but nothing much to worry about. |

He clearly stated rookies, although I didn't bold it, both Hughes and Elias contracts are not in that price range, they have some pretty fair sized bonuses, especially Elias.
Not sure any of those other players will be ready, although I would like to see at least one get some games.
Zacmac, might be the only one that could make the team next season. - Reubenkincade

Not often i agree with Marwood, but a first and a second is solid. You’ve got at least one NHLer, in all likelyhood, and a potential second. Both of which could end up better than Pageau. The isles have a stocked prospect pool, so I don’t hate the trade for either team. |
