How about I word it like this. The Rangers dont have ENOUGH secondary scoring. The Bruins arent a good example of secondary scoring because they dont have any either. They play a better defensive game than the Rangers. Thats the difference in the standings.
- Brukie

You can bytch and moan all you want about it, but you’re out to lunch if you think any aspect of goal scoring is an issue with them right now.

Not many teams in the leauge have more then 45 goals from bottom six players

They’re only flaws right now are face offs. inexperience and defensive soundness? Structure? I guess you’d call it. But they’re improving.

rangers might not win a faceoff tomorrow night
- NYRangers1124

Sometimes it seems like the Rangers might not win a faceoff the rest of the season. We need to focus on generating more pressure tomorrow. We had some good moments the first game we played them, but it just never felt like we sustained anything.

Flyers are red hot but we still got 3 games against them. We'd have to play perfect almost the rest of the season, but there are scenarios we could get in the top 3.

w/ all the fancy stats focused so much on possession its weird to see how these people on twitter/bloggers don't focus on the faceoff issues.

its the one play the has a 100% impact on immediate possession.

Of course Im a fan and of course I want a Cup. I probably have more Ranger memorabilia than everyone on this board together but dont say Im not a fan because I point out the flaws in their game. Thats ridiculous. You yourself just pointed out their defensive game needs improvement. So why are you not an bumhole and I am??

when your kids brought home a B on their report card did you make them feel like dirt because it wasn't an A, or if they played sports and and scored a few goals, or runs or what have you did you only point out how they (frank)ed up?

I was seriously thinking about changing my Fantasy hockey name back to the original but after reading through these comments I think I'll keep it.

Expect to hear more on Columbus forward Josh Anderson this week. Sounds like he’s done for the season with a shoulder injury that may require surgical repair.

I just don't understand why people are so obsessed trying to make those a thing. I feel like they do tell a story sometimes, but it's almost impossible in a team sport for it just to be told by numbers. It sort of works in baseball because while that's a team sport, it's mostly individual matchups.

I'm with you, the idea faceoffs are somehow irrelevant is one of the worst takes I've ever heard, and the stat guys just accept it as fact.

which is a big contributor to Trouba's lousy Corsi

his zone starts are 56% in the defensive zone and we can't win defensive zone draws

Please tell me the board is finally come around on my opinion, the guy is a one year wonder and damaged goods. Trading Buch for him would have been insanity.

Either way, we got out own version of Anderson now in the Gaut. I think Gaut turns out to be better too.

Larry Brooks was calling for Kreider to be traded for these damage goods a few weeks ago

i think it's evolved for the better over the past few years - it's not all about corsi and xGF is the new hot metric.

but i neverrrr see faceoffs mentioned. you cant get possession if every single D zone draw you lose and are buried in your own zone for another 2 minutes. then you ice the puck - rinse repeat.

someone other than zib needs to be able to win a draw. sadly, it seems like kreider is the 2nd best faceoff guy lol

Howden, Zib and Strome are all 48% on faceoffs this year

Chytil 37% on close to 400 faceoffs

The guy I would target next year via trade is Sean Monohan. Maybe you get him cheaper in a bad year.

26 yrs old, cost certainty, 4 years til UFA...and oh yea, 52% on face offs.

Strome, Georgy and Nils get it done?

I'm not trolling when I say I wouldn't give up that much more than Strome to get him. He's definitely a better and more consistent player than Strome has been, but I don't see Monahan as a game breaker where you have to give up one of your top prospects and two roster players for. I'd give Strome, Georgy, and like a mid round pick max.

It is a gravy year true. No pressure. Next year is a different story tho
- Slimtj100

Even next year though, they'll still be one of the youngest teams. The start to next year is so important. If they can come out of the gate strong, I think they have a legit chance to make some noise. Shesty is so key. Need the bottom six to take the next step.

What Tortorella has done with a team that has so many quality players not in the lineup has been astonishing
