In 54 games, he's been on the ice for 16 PPGA. That's not too bad.

Whatever is "off" about Marner, it's been hitting the entire team. Pretty unfair to single him out just because he most recently signed a big contract. Plenty of nights where even Matthews has been ineffective or invisible. It's been the whole team, not just Marner.

- JohnFergusonJr

Actually I think it's quite fair to single out a player for not playing up to par when they are making almost 11 million a season. That goes with the territory when you sign a big contract. I've actually thought Matthews has played some of his best two-way hockey down the stretch here. Involved physically and at least seems to give a poop.

Thank you.

Liljegren -2 in 5:41 of ice time...

Sucks for him that Marincin earned him that -2 and minimal icetime.

With one year on his contract he could be had for less.
- Santo_44

I don’t think they’ll trade him, but they’d get a haul I would think.

Kind of a horrible position to start off the beginning of his NHL career ... pressure situaation, poor team defense, 3 of top 4 dmen missing.

He might not ever be all that good, but tough to judge him right now.

So why not poop on Tavares? He's making 11 a year and his goals are way down from last year (not playing with Marner anymore, big surprise). His points aren't all that great either if you're holding him to that 11 million per year standard. He gets plenty of PP time and zero PK time.

Marner is killing penalties, the others are not. Right away, that's a big plus in the defense category. He's out there breaking up plays, creating SH chances and even blocking some shots. 2nd on the team in takeaways but nobody ever mentions that. All while being more than a PPG player.

If that's an "off" year, he's going to blow your socks off when he has a big year and 10.8 won't look so bad.

Freddy sucked. Leafs find a way to battle back and win.

Let's have a drink.

Liljegren got screwed by Marincin's trash. Yet Marincin gets handed 20 minutes of ice-time. Insane.

Actually overall solid hard worked for win and pretty happy with the results in the end.

There were blemishes but nothing that really they didn't overcome and battle through. I think Freddy needs a breather to reset, still seems a bit tired and off after that injury and I wonder really if that neck was not concussion and he is just trying to get through it some.

Really a strong performance though. We took it to them, tightened up and made it work.

The one thing I think we have to do is send Lili down to the AHL. He is struggling and playing with Marincrap is NOT helping. Make the move and trade, even if that particluar player can't be used in the post season at this point. Cheap vet guy ala Polak or someone to just run out there till we get to the end of the season and get our guys back off the IR

Too unsure and hesitant. Skill seems to be there but just out of sync with the speed I think.

Playin with Marincrap doesn't help though too I will say.

But I don't disagree

Against Detroit.

He's not the guy for the Leafs. More of the same poop they already have.

agreed.

Liljegren was also on for the "peach" that Freddie donated this evening - jeez that 3rd goal was weak.

Marner's having an off year. Galaxy brain passes, floaty perimeter stuff. All the things Willy has been chastised for in the past.

I think he'll turn it around.

I think he should be back with Tavares though. Matthews doesn't need a setup guy as much as Tavares does; Matthews needs another Hyman on the right side to go get him the puck.

I know you guys are messing with JFJ. Marner is the straw. Even in a really awful year at 23 years old he still stirs it. sorry but true. Nylander is scoring and has value but please, this is a really stupid debate. Ask any Gm in trade, same return for either Marner or Nylander, I know who they want.
