Whatever is "off" about Marner, it's been hitting the entire team. Pretty unfair to single him out just because he most recently signed a big contract. Plenty of nights where even Matthews has been ineffective or invisible. It's been the whole team, not just Marner.

He isn't right all of the time. He is also unbending in opinion, treating it as fact, which makes it difficult at times. He also isn't wrong all of the time.

A lot of his assertions are based on valid traditional expectations. You should have a solid defense to win a championship. You shouldn't pass the puck back into your defensive zone once you've left it. You certainly shouldn't carry it back into your defensive zone while being pursued. Based on the way the team is now constructed with Tavares having an NMC, Matthews and Marner being the engines that move the ship, it means that Nylander is probably the guy who fetches us the top line D-Man we need to move forward. This is not a bad observation, it's just unpleasant.

He is also a Leaf fan, he's just a hard-line realist who is hard to debate with. State your case, let him rebut, if you want to respond or reiterate feel free - just remember he doesn't sway - so move on.

Getting bent out of shape is pointless. We all want the same thing, we just have different views on what will bring that fruition, and we all equally have no say in what will actually be done.

It’s crazy how a year ago we were arguing with him that Freddy is important to this team.
