Oh Barrie’s defense is mediocre at best... we all know it...the guy is there to put up points from the back end... which he hasn’t done all that well at this year... if he had a higher point total I think the media and fans would be going a little bit easier on him. - Dozzer
not that it matters... but I wouldn't go easy on him
there HAS to be a minimal level of defensive competency... and engagement. One dimensional offense only mindset is what produces the garbage that Gardiner delivered for years. |

Sorry Tumblesies, you are absolutely absolving him of any blame and that is contrary to pretty much any statistical analysis, and contrary to the eye test. - Aetherial
i can because i see what happens when a goalie like hutch is net. too many times half the net was wide open and it's up to the player to phauef it not to score.
freddy gives himself a chance on almost every goal. he may not make a save, but he gets across the crease and takes away part of the net to at least make it a 50/50 proposition, vs. 99% with hutch.
without that comparison point, i don't think i would be letting him off the hook that easily. |

Yeah I’m really kinda hoping they don’t try to resign him this summer |

On that play though, Freddy way over-committed. Barrie forced him to go wide and didn't let him cut to the front of the net... If not for Sceviour hitting the outside of the post, yeah, that could have been brutal. - PatC80
my point (not defending Andersen at all) was that the play should never have gotten anywhere near where it did... Barrie was perfectly positioned to angle Sceviour towards the boards or corner... the fact that Sceviour actually got past/around Barrie was simply mind boggling...
it is seriously worth the watch to go back and find a replay.
all he had to do was keep skating and angle the guy off... seriously PeeWee stuff

Players will go wide and wrap around the net 20 times a game
If you are asking him to defend the wrap around then Idk what to say.
Freddy blew on that play. He looked bad like he has been all season except for November. |

Yeah, regardless of what happens for the rest of the year I hope Dubas just trades of his rights for a late pick or something. |

simply put... nothing to do with Andersen... the massive defensive failure happened when Barrie couldn't/wouldn't /didn't know how to angle off the forward, where Barrie had the perfect angle to do so.
Andersen made a major mess of it afterwards, not arguing that. Barrie engaged Sceviour as if he was Bob Probert...

You can argue that Barrie could have been more physical maybe, but for the most part, I thought he did an ok job.. Sceviour had a step on him because for whatever reason, Barrie slowed down.. If that had gone in, I think we would blame that one on Freddy for overcommitting on the play. |

Freddy was 4 feet out of his net on a bad angle....he played that awfully.
He was probably 4 feet out on that bad angle because he just got beat on that bad angle the goal prior.

If it went in, that one would be on Andersen. I agree, Barrie could have put himself in a better position but, there was no need for Sceviour to have an open net on a wrap around. Considering, that was really the only play Sceviour had |
