What’s up gents? Are we still arguing if Freddy is a good goalie or not? How much Marner is really worth? Which d-men really belong in the AHL?

Oh, so much to discuss in Leaf Land...

Let's see.... 5-6 years.... or at least buying a few ufa years..... considering his performance + potential..... now you add up the obvious Leafs overpay.... and you get......

3.75M per year for 5 years!

- Scabeh

That’s a touch high, once the regulars are back is role will lessen and that will be what likely defines his next contract

I think Dermott's next contract will be a 4 yr deal at $11M.. $2.75M per season.

Well so far, starting next season, he's the Leafs #3 defenseman is he not?

That's probably more reasonable.

Total cap hit for all defenseman last night was probably like 8 million.

We have no business winning with the amount of plugs we have on defense right now...But killjoys gonna killjoy.

- Leafs43

Jesus. It was even less: 7.5m, and after they benched Liljegren, it was $6.6m.

There are 18 defensemen in the NHL who make more than our defense-corps cost yesterday after the 2nd period.

Maybe?

Right now our top 6 are probably;

Rielly, Muzzin, Sandin, Holl, Dermott, Liljegren.

Despite Sandin having the most potential down the line, I'd dare say Dermott would currently fit in at #3 there in my book.

But that's obviously if the Leafs add absolutely no one on defense during the offseason, which is unlikely.

If he wants more $$, trade him..

We'll have Rielly, Muzzin and Sandin on the left side..

Likely, but if we go LHD/RHD pairings only, he might be a 5-6-7 guy...

Rielly - Insert someone that can defend
Muzzin - Holl, maybe??
Dermott/Sandin-Liljegren

I'd like Keefe to try Muzzin-Reilly together. They've never really had a shot to be the top matchup pair. Then next season:

Muzzin-Reilly
Dermott-Holl
Sandin - UFA/whoever

I believe it's because they play the same side.

It's never ideal to have a defenseman play on his bad side, even if some do manage it quite well.

Maybe Rielly or Muzzin could.

Possibly one of Dermott or Liljegren will be packaged with Johnsson in a trade for the Insert someone that can defend player.

or

Some intriguing right handed d-men UFA available next year too.

It may be a good year to trade him... especially if he increases his value enough with all these injuries.

I don’t know... if Holl and Dermott end up proving themselves as an effective shutdown pairing maybe just maybe Dubas might have to reconsider his blue line plan moving forward

I think Rielly has a skill set capable of the switch... that’s the kind of thing that you never know until you do it tho

Hrm.

Zadorov got 1x$3.2m

Sanheim got 1x$3.25m

Carlo got 2x$2.85m

Pionk got 2x$3m

Will Butcher got 3x$3.7m

Marcus Petterson got 5x$4.025; it buys 2 UFA years and seems like a bit of an overpayment.

I'd say he's something like 2x$2.5, 3x$3, 4x$3.25m, or 5x$3.75. And those might be low . . .

I don't think Rielly can play the right side.. Hainsey played on that side for the years he was paired with Rielly.
