Because he's a UFA and can go anywhere he wants, including the Penguins, the Lightning, the Capitals, the Bruins, the Knights, the Blues and so on and so forth.
9 goals and 24 points? Not that impressive on a team that plays all out offense. Not that much above average for him or his style of player. - JohnFergusonJr
Per Thornton, I was talking about the TDL. If Toronto had wanted him there's no doubt he would have been happy to play there.
If suspect that if SJS had any offers from a playoff contending team he would have been shipped out even on the cheap.
With respect to Spezza: 24 points, with most of his time spent on the 4th line playing less than 11mins a game (with players like Goat who suffocates offense), is (frank)ing impressive. |

Thornton only wanted to go to elite contenders. Doubt the Leafs were on his list.
Spezza isn't the type of veteran they need. He's done nothing but show the kids on this team how to be a hot dog your entire career and never win anything. |

This is UG in a nut shell.
Tries to spin off a 700K signing with 24 points like its a bad thing.
Perfect example why you should ignore clowns like this. They simply hate everything and feel the need to argue the negative side of every point to bring others down to their hatred on life. |

Per Spezz, you were arguing that he hasn't produced and you're absolutely wrong. Name another player who is sub-11 mins TOI who has contributed more points.
You can't.
Your bias regarding his early "hot dog" play is showing. He's clearly not that player any more and has accepted a diminished role without pouting about it.
There's a lot of great players who have never won a Cup. Lazy argument. |

It's kind of fun watching him flail about with terrible arguments all the while digging himself deeper and deeper to a point of no return.
It's doughtyful he'll ever change. |

He's a proven top 10 goalie the past 5 years. 7th best SV%, 1st in shots against, 4th in games played.
Compared to other seasons; more rookies, more AHLers, more poopty defenders, more injuries, a new coach that doesn't care about defense.
He has said it himself because he's being professional and isn't going to throw his team's poopty defense under the bus.
Leafs give up a lot of high danger chances but what gets lost in those spread sheets is how wide open those chances really are. The criteria for high danger scoring chance is set by whom? Who counts them? What I'm saying here is there's room for grey area. Not all scoring chances are alike. The drop is HDSV% could just as easily be because the Leafs are giving up really ridiculously easy goals for the opposition in high danger areas. Which would makes sense if one goes back and watches the chances and goals being given up, you'll quickly see very few are his fault and the vast majority are on the defense / forwards.
There have been many other factors that are contributing to the dip in numbers and the majority of them have nothing to do with Andersen. - JohnFergusonJr
The Leafs are giving up ridiculously easy chances on the PK, this is definite. At 5v5 I find that Andersen has been less than himself. Regardless, I feel that he is rounding back into form.
Again, my thing with him isn't that the goals are his fault or can be faulted on the team - my thing is that we have expectations based on past history that Andersen will make these elite-level saves and he has not done so this season.
Being a top-10 goalie comes with that expectation.
Simply put: I'm not defending the team defense because it's abysmal. But I'm also not abdicating Andersen because he has not played at the same high level as we're used to.

With San Jose sitting near the bottom of the standings, the veteran center was willing to waive his no-movement clause in order to join a legitimate Cup contender. But while there was interest in Thornton on deadline day, it didn't come from the league's "elite" teams, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

Facts. Give them a try.
Spezza always has been and always will be a hot dog player. He's a poopty veteran for this team. Teaches them nothing they don't already know or can't already do themselves.
