Yzerman was pushing hard to sign someone in Tampa.. About 3 months after going to Detroit. I forget the player.

That's when Ek had Yzerman trading for impending RFA Point. Yzerman was apparently GM of both the Red Wings and Tampa. He was to be the first GM in NHL history to make a trade with himself.

Yes! That was it! I don't think that's the right blog but he definitely framed it like Yzerman was calling the shots in Tampa.

I think it may have been a post in the Free Agent Tracker.
