I wasn't talking about money, but I agree, they gave him way to much. I was referring to the assets coming back to Ottawa in the trade. I did not see their first being this valuable, but the NHL has a way of making anyone and everyone look stoopid at some point in time. - RickJames77
Worst signing in years. In my opinion only. |

Ottawa is a threat to you.. They could have as many as 3 picks in the top 10. - PatC80
Here's hoping Dorion goes all Sweeney during the draft and only picks one player worth a damn |

Oh for sure, SJ falling this quick was a shock.. I know Jones hasn't been good but a lot of people, myself included had them making the playoffs.
The injuries haven't helped them either,(Karlsson, Couture, Hertl). They don't have the depth to overcome those long term injuries. - PatC80
They have a lot of older guys in the lineup too. Vlasic, Thornton, Burns...they are going to need a full rebuild soon. Then they have a soon to be 30 year old karlsson for 7 more years at 11.5million. This could be a long road for them. |

It could be a long road, and maybe that was to be expected.. Just didn't expect it this soon. |

Plekance shut down Bergeron for about 12 minutes. It was worth it.. No one else has come close to doing that since. - PatC80
Bergeron had 12 minutes of turtleneck jokes. Once he was done delivering them, it was back to work. |

They have good pieces, but are tough to take seriously. Last summer it was ownership is opening the bank to be competitive. Then they sign a 10 million dollar goaler, suck for large spans of the year, relay the message that they need to shed 10 million in salary, which they gave to Bob the year before and because of that trade a 2nd line center. The team is a cluster (frank).
You need to be competitive to bring in fans and they just aren't doing it. Their drafting is absolutely atrocious and if you want to survive in a small market, you need that as your foundation so that you can bring in young, cheap, team controlled players and wisely allocate your money to savvy UFA additions and or trades. They have done none of that and are squandering Barkov and Huberdeau's prime and it's a complete joke. - RickJames77
I'm not sure how teams like Florida and Arizona survive. They have to be losing so much money. Arizona made a big trade to excite the fanbase and might miss again. I know the Houston rockets owner wants to buy them and move them there. |

I’m also pretty interested in Abramov.
4th round pick last year. Almost twice as many points and goals as the next highest player on his team.
That’s immpressive. - Santo_44
Me too. I had read that on the Pension Plan Puppets site.
Obviously, it's not in any way an exact science. I look at someone like Point - drafted 79th. So in the year following being drafted he put up 91pts in 72 games; the next closest person on his team had 55pts. For the rest of us it's pretty annoying, but for Tampa it has to be pretty rewarding to see that type of progress.
Alternatively , though, you get someone like Adam Mascherin. I liked him, DeBrincat and Raddysh as options instead of Korshkov. Mascherin put up 100pts in the year following his draft - the next closest on his team put up 60. Mascherin has still not played an NHL game. Neither has Raddysh.
It's why trading away the picks hurts (I know why we did it and I agree) because we'll need depth in the system to support the higher earning players and use the mid-tier guys to replenish the farm.

Interesting.. So the Leafs will either win or lose tonight?
I like your confidence. - PatC80
fine. i'll be more firm.
if neither team wins in regulation, i predict it will go to OT and it could also even end in a shootout. The leafs should win, but if they don't, the sharks will.

I think the Leafs play a strong game until the 3rd but then the kids start getting tired and cranky and miss their blankies. |
