Listening to Staple on TSN -- fair amount of speculation from him re: moving Leddy in the offseason - eichiefs9
Did he mention just as a salary dump or to help bring in a scorer? |

I should think it would be both. |

I don't know depends how much Barzal is going to ask for. They might have to dump him for futures just to sign Barzal, Pulock & Toews |

He talked pretty briefly about either scenario, if I recall. Cpt is obviously right, Staple doesn't have the same inside track with Lou as he did with the other (frank)wad so it's all a big "maybe".
Really nothing that we haven't all brought up a few times here. Either move him for cap space and to recoup some of the assets lost in the Pageau trade or for scoring help on the wing if there's a deal to be had there.
I think the latter would be a lot harder. Probably some limited options out there in terms of teams that a) are in the market for Leddy b) have someone we'd want c) an option where the money in/out works on both sides. Jets are a real intriguing option for me. Plenty of cap space and a real dearth of NHL defenseman, especially on the left side, under contract for next year. I'm not sure Leddy is going to be worth someone like Ehlers, who would be an unbelievably-perfect fit here, but maybe throwing in someone like Bellows would help push that one along. |

Leddy and Bellows might be close.
Christ Ehlers would be wonderful for this team... |

Touché.
I’m thinking Barzal probably signs a lower term deal.
As to the money... well I haven’t a (frank)ing clue. |

Jets are in a little bit of a bind with no more Byfuglien and only Morrissey signed on the left side for next season. Not sure Kulikov is worth another deal at his age/what he's currently making and Bitteto/Beaulier are pretty low-end. I guess they could stick Heinola or Logan Stanley there, but expecting them to potentially assume a top-4 role would be asking a lot of some young guys. |

Agreed.
They’d be a hell of lot more desperate if Hellebuyck wasn’t masking their defensive deficiencies. |

I wonder if they could work Hickey into the deal to make the money work a little better for them. Jets would essentially get two NHL defenseman and Bellows. Isles would get Ehlers and a little breathing room to maybe sign Greene cheap for a year to afford Dobson the time to develop at a reasonable pace in the minors.
Now I'm waiting for the inevitable Jets fan to show up and tell me how dumb I am. Ehlers is a criminally underrated player though, so I expect that no Jets fan is dying to move him. Certainly not expecting that deal to happen. |
