It seems that scoring 50 goals means more to Matthews than winning or team success. Given his high rate of turnovers, non existent physical play, lack of back checking and not contributing defensively in his own zone. Who's the one trick pony now?

Sigh....

He's not in the top 115 players in giveaways in the league. He IS number 3 in the league in takeaways though. He also leads his team in +/-. I know +/- isn't a truly meaningful stat when comparing players....but it does hold more water when you're comparing players within the same team.

Unless he gets crazy hot and then you never know. He is just Mr. consistent on the Leafs, one of the few. Offensively anyway. He has been playing far better on the defensive side as well.
