Defenseman Nikita Tryamkin’s season ended today in the KHL playoffs, his 3 year contract in the KHL ends on April 30th.

The #Canucks can now start talking contract with his agent Todd Diamond.

Tryamkin can not play this season.

Well that settles that. Would have been nice to see him in action this year to judge where he's at.

Do you guys really expect him to come back?

...or the team to want him back...? He's gonna be 26 years old by the time next season starts.

I still think sign him. A 6'8 RD is and will always be an asset even if it is a trade chip.

Gotta sign Nikita ... big body, fill Tanev's spot. He's not great, but overfills a void.

Maybe nucks are fine with keeping the draft pick this year, in a good draft. Better sign Toffoli then.

I still don't know why ths draft is any different from another draft. I see three names come up regularly and I don't think they are in the same context as McDavid or Matthews.

If Canucks miss the playoffs and are drafting 15 th and we don't win the lotto I would be inclined to still let the pick go this year and prepare for next year .

Agreed, esp if we regress next year somehow. Losing a guaranteed 15 OA is better than losing another potential lottery pick.

Even if we have the same finish next year and not regress . Chances are we improve again but I would rather lose the 15 th than the third next year if we won the lottery

i'd like to think so, but they have a bad habit of playing down to their opponents.

Having an actual NHL goalie in net will help though.

Does Van get to choose? Like if we don't make playoffs this year, they can choose to give up the pick pending results of lottery?

For some reason I thought it was cut and dry. We miss playoffs this year (lotto), pick moves to next year.

For what it's worth, I think we'll be better next year. Good signs but also signs of immature team ... as long as we don't bungle the goalie situation.

Drafting is the lifeline of any successful franchise. None of Petey, Boeser, Miller, Horvat were of the McDavid or Matthews ilk but they’re still the most important players on this franchise and we’d be nowhere without them.

No we don’t get to choose. We could however trade this years pick to NJ for our pick next year. Would never happen. That’s benning betting against the Canucks in the future lol. Pure, uncut, 100% 🛀 🧂

Pittsburgh sinse 2012 have kept 3 first round picks and won two cups in that time frame. In 2011 Joe Morrow was drafted by the Pens but never played for them. 2010 Bennet was drafted and played a little over 100 games.

One was Derrik Pouliot and we all know he was a bust and one was Kapanen traded to the Leafs . This years pick is way to early to predict

Black Hawks since 2010 have kept 9 first round picks and 2 only still remain with the team Dach and Boqvist . They won 3 cups

LA KIngs since 2010 have had 6 first round picks. One still plays for the Kings Kempe . Pearson was a contributor but is no longer there . Forbort also spent years there but didn't contribute much . Gilardi has just been called up and has played 9 games. They won 2 cups .

In the last 10 years these three teams have combined for 7 of 10 cups and have a combined 4 first round picks that are currently playing for the team. None of the 4 have played in a SCF round.

This. Plus is more beneficial to a team's bottom line to resign and retain drafted players than going out and signing FAs or trade for skill.

Probably because those teams all found their stars in the draft years and years ago and then built around them.
