The bet isnt if he hits 45pts - it's if he accepts 1mil. He's making 916 now - I honestly think he'll want/deserve closer to 2 - Brooks_Light
Agreed.
He's definitely worth closer to 2m than 1m. |

i mean, Leivo had 24 points over 76 games the season before Benning signed him to a 1.5 mill 1 year deal. I think Gaudette, at minimum, will make 1.5 AAV in the next deal. - Codes1087
Okay fair but is it worth a 3 page discussion over 300 K for a guy rumored to be on the block at TDL? |

I'm most interested if Brock lines up Clutterbuck for a hit. I wonder if Jake keeps the door open again to claim his spot......
.....ok I made that up.
Should try to keep Tanev - he is pretty important out there every shift. Pretty bad asset management if we lose Tanev, Stetcher, and Tofoli in the summer....I like Jim B.
Pageau on the 3rd line is scary cuz the coverage will be thin.

I remember also people telling me how good Sven was and at least worth 2.5 per.
Sometimes being right is not the best solution. I wanted Sven signed at 1.5 |

last blog there was a guy talking about salivating, and in the same post, talking about pig lips and butt holes. |

If we are handing out 2 mil to Gauds and 3 mil to Jake and 3 mil to Stech then you ca kiss Toffoli goodbye.
Canucks have enough overpaid players they don't need to keep piling on. |

If you look around the league there arn't many 3C hitting 40+ points - even less doing it in their 2nd year at 12 mins TOI. 2mil for a guy that's developing in the right direction is worth 2mil any day. I'd much rather lock that up than go UFA hunting. |

I'm thinking 1.5 - 1.75 per year on 2 year deal. Jake is the contract I'm intrigued with as his bridge deal is ending. |

Giving 2Mil to AG and 3mil to JV are actually smart, deserved RFA deals - it's the Beagle, Roussel, Loui, Sutter, Ferland deals that hurt.
How can you not see that two 23yr olds, trending in the 40+point direction are not the problem deals?

Sure.
But what we as fans 'want' in a cap league, vs what the player has earned are two different things.
We might not be able to resign all the players we've been developing, especially if we can't offload some of Sutter, Beagle, Eriksson, Sven, Roussell, Stetcher, etc.
As long as there are more low cost players on the up, it shouldn't be an issue. |

I have said over and over Canucks have bad contracts. Giving more bad contracts is just as stupid.
Jake is playing fourth line tonight because this is where they have him valued . I agree having so many fourth line contracts at 3 mil per is very stupid .
Reminder Jake is playing fourth line tonight . You want to give him a 3 mil contract.
That is piling on. |

Nice crystal ball...
Also, that's not the be-all/end-all point here - but you can bet your a$$ it's one of the factors his agent is going to use. Along with comparables from other guys/contracts that have been signed in the last few years. Look around the league, there's far more Heinen, Denato, Bennett deals than Lebanc deals. |

a 4th line next year of
Motte (1m) - Beagle (3m) - JV (3m)

tonights 4th line
Eriksson (6m) - Sutter (4.75m) - JV (1.25m)

Fans want a 125 million dollar roster in an 88 million dollar cap world. The fans have to make choices and more importantly the team has to make choices.
Who will have more impact in a cap compliant world Jake as a fourth or third liner at 3 mil or Toffoli at 5 mil.
If I was making the choice it is a no brainer for me.

OMG dude, please tell me you're not serious? This is by my count the 1st game all year that's happened (and will probably last 5 shifts) and you think Benning can use that as ammo against JVs agent come negotiating time?? C'mon man. |

Jake is '4th liner' when we have a stacked top 6.
No Toffoli next year would open up a spot on the top 6 for JV i suspect.
He wouldn't produce as much as TT, but would be cheaper and bring speed/strength.

I have already said three times in the last hour yes Canucks have bad contracts.
But replacing a fouth line 3 mil Jake is just swapping one bad contract for another |

So your argument is to unstack the top 6 to make room for Jake? |

Pageau is trash. Horrible trade and an even worse signing. GM’s can’t help themselves |
