I liked Roussel last year as well, but with the higher skill level on the team this season and next, I don't think you're in as much need of a guy who gets the other team off their game. Better to invest that money in someone who's similar but more of a legitimate face-puncher than poop-disturber. - YeOldTimer
I think if it comes down to choosing between Jake at 2.5 -3 mil or Zack at 1 mil for third line duties then I think they would move Jake and try to get a pick back. I also think Green likes and trusts Lievo more than Jake. - VANTEL
Dude, how about you settle down you cranky old fuk?
I have said over and over Canucks have bad contracts. Giving more bad contracts is just as stupid.
Jake is playing fourth line tonight because this is where they have him valued . I agree having so many fourth line contracts at 3 mil per is very stupid .
Reminder Jake is playing fourth line tonight . You want to give him a 3 mil contract.
That is piling on. - VANTEL
Not commenting on what Virtanen should earn, but I don’t see virtanen as a 4th line player, that to me speaks to the coach and his continued holding back on player development.

Cue Don and belcher. - Makita
He's on the 4th line tonight, not since the start of the year Logically, where else is he supposed to go tonight? First two lines are set with BB back, the third line had a couple really strong games showing chemistry... soooooooo....?
He's not a 4th line player. This team just has a glut of forwards. Some could see it as a positive they have enough depth to have a guy like Virt on the 4th line for a game

Not sure if the geniuses on here are aware of the fact that Jake also started on the 4th line last game as well.

Didn't Jake start on the 4 th last game and the game before also?
I think with a healthy lineup Jake will struggle to find a spot. Even more so when Pod is here.
I think multiple times he has played on the 4 th this year. I am not positive but I think so.
I think with a healthy top 6 and less time in the top 6 he wont be a 20 goal guy
Lets see him beat out Roussel Zac and Lievo for a spot on the third line.

I support this message that the coach doesn't allow players to play to their strengths.

Greener gave Jakey a vote of confidence the other day saying he's played well and can help any line he's on. Watch him elevate Sutter's play with another good coaching decision.

I could see him beat out all 3, I certainly don’t see the love for Leivo, Roussel isn’t as talented and McEwen might be the only real competition....might.

If you look around the league there arn't many 3C hitting 40+ points - even less doing it in their 2nd year at 12 mins TOI. 2mil for a guy that's developing in the right direction is worth 2mil any day. I'd much rather lock that up than go UFA hunting. - Brooks_Light
Pageau was playing top line minutes and has 10 more pts in like 10 more games and he got a huge deal. Theres at least a comaprable ufa. Thank goodness AG has no arb rights and is restricted. 1.5.to 2 if you go longer

You would think that is true (not being sarcastic) but history on this team Jake is the one that is usually the Plan B

Leivo is just a better pro than Jake, at least from what I can tell. He gets the message, plays the system, and puts in the effort on both sides of the puck. Jake has the potential to be (and at times has been) more impactful, just hasn't put it together consistently. This last stretch of games is very encouraging for him, hopefully JTM is getting through.
