im not a doctor, and i dont feel i dismissed it, but im certainly not panicking. I will argue till im blue in the face that stock piling TP and paper towel is unnecessary. I also stated above that no sporting event or public event is worth the risk of any human life, so cancelling or shutting them down is great. I live above two elderly people, one who just went through chemo and is immune compromised, and I have two very young children, I must stay informed. I dismissed the hysteria revolving around N95 masks and the mass hoarding of TP. - Codes1087
I had an Exec from Royal Columbian Hospital call me today. There was a bit of panic in their voice. Just saying.
It will be contained but the economic toll is going to be bruising. TP hoarding is going to be the least of our problems.

im sort of surprised you thought i was dismissive of this. Its hard to be dismissive about anything when you work in healthcare. I am assuming my comment about influenza was what did it, and maybe that was done in poor taste by me, as really one doesn't have anything to do with each other. I have had my fair share or arguments with anti-vaxxers and anti-flu shot people on here, so i was mainly trying to relate how quick people are to put off the flu shot or vaccines but stock up on TP. Apologies if that was the message that was relayed.

I'm not one for mass panic or hysteria, but i also work in the health field and am aware of how serious this is being taken at the moment.
Definitely reconsidering any overseas holidays we were looking at.
As an aside, feeling better about living on a tiny island in the middle of the pacific all of a sudden. - dbot
the way I see it, is I am going to attend all the town halls and available sessions through work that I can to stay informed, im not going to travel anywhere in the next little while, I'm not going to load up on toilet paper with no confirmed cases on the island, and I am going to take all necessary precautions.
Not trying to shame. I always respect your takes but it’s weird that if you don’t scream “shark!” no one pays attention these days.
I’m treating this as a trial run or practice for when a really really deadly virus comes along. And I think we will see it in our lifetime.
Anyway, back to hockey. - bloatedmosquito
meh, the conversation isnt going ugly, no reason to direct it away
to be fair and honest, my tune would probably change if it hit closer to home, which is pretty ignorant and selfish, but ill admit it. Again, I will do what I can to stay well informed and up to date and make sure my family is doing what they can, but I am just not hitting the panic button yet so to speak.

Ya, I think there is very good reason to be concerned – especially if all the people actually working in health care and around the virus are. The hysteria over TP is comically absurd, but panic does strange things to people.
Living in New York City, it's going to hit hard here I think. My GF's sister has a 2 year old and is currently pregnant, and their dad had lung cancer last year. Scary times.
We aren’t allowed to travel or attend any dinners, conferences or sporting events. I’ve ripped up 1000’s in canucks seats the last few days. Just brutal - CanuckDon
How’s your investments doing? My bank stocks are doing absolute poop but my Walmart is keeping me from selling off.

the world taking precautionary measures to stop the further risk of exposure to this disease doesn't mean its the second coming of the bubonic plague either though. No sporting event is worth the risk of mass exposure, so I applaud every organization who is willing to pause, cancel, or take measures to decrease the risk of further exposure.
Hoarding TP, living in a bubble and acting as if the world coming to an end is dumb.
Saying that there is zero risk is equally as dumb
washing your hands, stay informed, take the precautions is all people ask. - Codes1087
Some. But according to Twitter, organic toilet paper and rectal application of essential oils is your best bet. - YeOldTimer
If you watch John Oliver, his last segment on Corona is pretty solid. There are some terrible infomercial priests hocking silver as a cure for it and then reports of people gargling bleach

I was listening to a JRE podcast talking with an infection diseases expert.
Joe Rogan was bummed to learn that a sauna doesn't cure the disease.

If we hear that essential oils are being mass purchased because of this, I'll have zero faith in humanity. - Codes1087
All you really need in a time of crisis/ quarantine is 50 bottles of wine, 200 beers, some protein bars, massage oil, lube, a few dumbells, tight jeans, and no condoms. Perhaps some candles and a spa diffuser as well. I’m over prepared
