Hasek became a professional in the Czech Extraliga in 1980 at age 16. The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Hasek in 1983, nine years before they traded him. He was named the top goalie in the Extraliga five years in a row from 1986-1990, and top player overall in 1987, 1989, and 1990.
Sorry, I’m not cutting the Blackhawks any slack on the “unknown commodity” front. They obviously didn’t know what they had, but that’s a 100% self-inflicted mistake. His talent and potential should have been obvious to all but the willfully ignorant. - Sven22
Very good point, got me on that. I stand by the expansion draft excuse as they weren't letting go of Belfour off a all star appearance and career year where he helped get the Hawks to the SCF. could THEY HAVE GOTTEN MORE FOR hASEK? Obviously a helluva lot more in hindsight. |

Surely it had nothing to do with the fact that they had Ed Belfour, the reigning Jennings, Vezina, and Calder winner in net.
Hasek ended up being better than Belfour in the end, but they are both HOFers. It's not like they traded Hasek to go with Dominik Roussell or something. - jmatchett383
That was my point. Of course it was a sh!t trade for the Hawks in the end but people tend to forget they had to deal him and got what they could at that time or lose him to either the Sens or Tampa Bay |

Hawks got Tony Esposito from the Habs for free. Some sort of intra league draft that happened at that time. |

Lost in the shuffle here of the whole LA thing:
On February 27, 1996, Gretzky joined the St. Louis Blues in a trade for Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat, Craig Johnson and two draft picks (Peter Hogan and Matt Zultek). He partially orchestrated the trade after reports surfaced that he was unhappy in Los Angeles....sorry but can anyone tell me anything about these guys at all!
Who are these people, yes the blues didn't win the cup honestly looking back I cant believe it!!!! brett hull, al macinnis, adam oates, gretzky, young pronger...How do these people NOT WIN THE CUP! |

It’s still one of the worst if not the worst. Im sure the caps would say they had so many forwards forsberg was expendable. Still a garbage trade. |

Ya this is a bad. They still got more replacement service than washington, chicago pr vancouver did in the forsberg/hasek and neely deals. Pederson, erat and the fourth were all pretty much nothing in exhange. |

My wife, to her new boyfriend for nothing in return - eichiefs9
Did you retain any salary? I heard she was too much of a team player and never get into the dirty zone so as long as you don't have a cap hit I think you made out fine. |

This was another dark day in the Blues Kingdom
On July 2, 2015, TJ Oshie was traded by the Blues to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley and a third-round draft pick in 2016.
Since then Pheonix has returned to Washington.
Brouwer passed on the Blues when they went to resign him. Instead opting for Calgary.
Now a few years later the Blues have picked Brouwer up out of the recycle bin and hes hanging on in the press box post attempted waiver.
A little more juice out of that one. Lemon juice.

Tverdovsky had three solid years in pheonix. A bunch of trades on here teams got nothing for an all star or HOFer. It’s a bad trade, there have been worse. - neem55
What makes it so terrible isn’t it Tverdosky had good years...
Its that the Peg knew they had a generational superstar and still traded him ... |

Again, it’s a bad trade. There are worse though. It was a money trade, like so many involving the coyotes have been. |

Hate to break it to ya... but Rask beat you guys 3 times. You are forgetting about 2012-2013 ... the "pre" Andersen days...

Raycroft was rookie of the year with nothing but upside, Tuukka was just a prospect |
