Hi EK,

This has to be one of the worst and biggest trades in the NHL:

The Calgary Flames traded Doug Gilmour, Ric Natress, Kent Manderville, Jamie Macoun and Rick Wamsley TO TORONTO FOR Gary Leeman, Craig Berube, Alexander Godynuk, Michel Petit and Jeff Reese.

Doug Gilmour went on to have I believe consecutive 100 + point seasons after and the Flames got nothing out of Leeman and the other players.

Lost in the shuffle here of the whole LA thing:

On February 27, 1996, Gretzky joined the St. Louis Blues in a trade for Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat, Craig Johnson and two draft picks (Peter Hogan and Matt Zultek). He partially orchestrated the trade after reports surfaced that he was unhappy in Los Angeles....sorry but can anyone tell me anything about these guys at all!

Who are these people, yes the blues didn't win the cup honestly looking back I cant believe it!!!! brett hull, al macinnis, adam oates, gretzky, young pronger...How do these people NOT WIN THE CUP!

- Donovan

Oates had been in Boston for years when that trade went down.

The Kings had financial problems as a result of Bruce McNall's misdeeds. He was also Gretzky's buddy and he'd lost the team. So Gretzky bolting was no surprise.

Tardiff and Vopat, IIRC, were two stud prospects that never amounted to much at all. Craig Johnson actually had a steady career in LA as (mostly) a third liner.

Not the most lopsided, but cringeworthy: Miikka Kiprusoff to Calgary, with a second going to San Jose.

Raycroft was rookie of the year with nothing but upside, Tuukka was just a prospect
- 77emac77

Raycroft was terrible the year prior and became the Bruins #3 goalie

2015 7th round pick (VAN - #204 - Jack Sadek)
2014 3rd round pick (TBL - #80 - Louis Belpedio)

Tampa Bay Lightning Acquire:
2014 3rd round pick (MIN - #79 - Brayden Point)

1 spot... Not the most lopsided and no one would have predicted Point's ascension then but still a crazy good trade by the Lightning.

Skip Krake from Boston to LA for a #1 draft pick

This was back in the Next Six expansion era when a lot of new hockey owners and executives had no idea what they were doing....did not understand the value of draft picks and thought that 3rd-4th liners and third-pair defensemen on good teams would automatically become stars on expansion teams - only to find they were 3rd-4th line and third pairing guys no matter where they played.

December 6th, 1995, habs send Patrick Roy and Mike Kean to the Colorado Avs for Jocelyn Thibault, Martin Rucinski and Andrei Kovalenko. That was 2 years after the habs' last cup. In retrospect, the begining of the end...😞

He won the Calder in 04. Turned Himself into an healthy scratch the post lockout season. There was plenty of indication he was a one year wonder when the trade was made. Another stinker for JFJ.

The Bruins have made some gem trades in the last 10 years.

Rich Peverley to the Boston Bruins along with Boris Valabik. In return, the Thrashers received Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart.

Then they traded Seguin, along with Rich Peverley and Ryan Button, to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow.

I like seeing the Jagr deals on here, but in all honesty, every time he was traded, the team trading him away got ripped off. Every. Single. Time

I think nothing beats Stojanov for Naslund but since that's been said a few times how about
Colorado Trades
Barry Beck
for
Lucien DeBlois
Pat Hickey
Mike McEwen
Dean Turner
future considerations (Bob Crawford)

Beck had a short but nice career while the others never really amounted to much outside of maybe DeBlois?
