I think they will have talks seeing these are unusual circumstances.
It could come down to business as usual with a cap cut . I would be okay with that also. You might have players on the team like Lind and Rafferty instead of Tanev and Taffoli but again this would be a a league wide problem . Free agents would have to sign for a lot less or play in NJ Ott or Det if the owners open up their check books . - VANTEL
Or players would take a 1 year pay cut and let it normalize. Tanev 1 year 3m, Toffoli 1 year 3.5m

Can you imagine when they put in a temporary franchise player tag, and Loui becomes the designee.

If the Cap ends up going down, I hope the league gives teams a compliance buyout. - Retinalz
i don't want teams to get any breaks... they should have to comply without any buyouts or anything else... they should be held to account for making the decisions they made... should have kept some space as a buffer... the teams with cap space to give should get the benefit of their frugality.

that could be a reasonable option.
the PA agrees to cut salaries by X% for the year rather than have a harsh escrow. it might amount to the same thing just due to the reality. - RealityChecker
the league should hold them to escrow. share the pain. they've had guaranteed contracts for awhile now. so they should feel the burn as well...

Wifey just into week 4 of pneumonia recovery. Doing ok but looks to be a bit longer.
On hockey I’d like to see a few games played to even out games played. Say a 74 game season then PO’s. Other option is winning %. Some teams might hate it but that’s what it might come down to. Idea is to finish by end of August or sooner if that’s possible. Idc about NBC & Olympic scheduling. If the season PO’s has to be written off so be it. Whatever is necessary is more important than completing a season. - Nighthawk
Hope she gets well soon. sad to hear about the illness in your family.

Benning on Brackett - "We're continuing to talk to Judd. We've offered him an extension. We're continuing to have those talks, once we have something we'll announce it."
but, it's only been done after new CBAs were agreed upon. i'm not sure what the NHLPA's position would be on the matter. i don't think the league can arbitrarily apply such a measure without agreement from the players.
when making substantial changes to player conditions (and contracts would fall within that), they need to be agreed upon by both sides.
there are so many factors in this that it's going to be chaos over the next few months. - RealityChecker
I doubt it. There are plenty of teams who wouldn’t use one. This would put them in a significant position of strength. Why would they agree to it? Plus I don’t think the PA wants it’s members being bought out.

A giant bumblebee has just flown in to join me in my social isolation. Not sure I was really looking for that type of company!
Another day, another challenge...
Anyway - new blog is up, with some thoughts on Will Lockwood and Marc Michaelis and respect for Petey and Guddy as they work to keep themselves entertained.
