Jim Benning says the #Canucks were always confident of getting William Lockwood signed.

"He was coming off of shoulder surgery, talked to his parents about it... He wanted to finish off his degree and we said 'ok'... Ryan Johnson did a real good job keeping in touch with him."

Pretty clear Benning and his staff like Michaelis' two-way game. Sees him as a centre. He can score and kill penalties. At worst a good add for Utica.

But not as creative as Tyler Madden, I'm told by those who've watched him and at 25, he's pretty much a finished product.

Regarding college free agent signings for NHL teams, business as usual for future year contracts. But no current year contracts allowed until anyone knows what the current year looks like. So for now, any signing means the deal is dated July 1 and goes into effect next season.

Says, "Marky would be close to playing" and Leivo is "making good progress."
