Imagine how hard it must be for Nylander not to touch his own face.

Saturday night we "made" the kids watch Airplane.

We are now trying to figure out other classics they need to watch.

Feel free to make suggestions (they are grade 9 and 6).

I may put on Dumb and Dumber tonight.

- Atomic Wedgie

I am thinking maybe some classic Arnie movies for my son (grade 8). Maybe Top Gun and Tombstone also.

Uncle Buck, the National Lampoon movies.

Did the kids get the Airplane stuff? It seems pretty dated. Is OJ in that one?

No, no, no Canada Cup. You've got it all wrong.

This is a punishment by God for all of our sins. A plague for things like Rock and Roll, strip clubs, and questioning creationism. Therefore the only logical thing to do is to pray to our lord and savior, Satan, to save us from that mean old fogey living in the clouds somewhere.

Kids should watch Evil Dead 2 and John Carpenter's The Thing

Also The Witch is one of the best horror movies ever and no one takes the recommendation.

A really good overlooked Arnie movie The Long Goodbye. More of a cameo appearance but still a great film.

I have to admit, I rather liked that when it came out. It's pretty crazy they made a movie that had so much success for such a tiny budget.

I just double checked. They had a budget of 60k and grossed 250 million. Not bad.

How about, I Spit on Your Grave, or Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things
- Woderwick

There is a pretty graphic rape scene in I Spit on Your Grave isnt there?

Might not be the greatest film for a 6th grader to watch.

Yeah for sure. I was fascinated by ghost towns around here as a kid, and the spooky aspect of it all. So I guess it resonated, I was probably 10 when it came out.

Sometimes you watch a movie and you can tell they spent a bajillion dollars on it, but the story sucks.

The Evil Dead franchise was great. I love Bruce Campbell vs the army of darkness. Freaking hilarious. So were the first two to a degree, but they were more unintentionally funny. By the third, they had fully embraced the fact that the movies were more comedy than horror.

Bruce Campbell had some great B movies lol. Bubba Ho-Tep and My name is Bruce were awesome too.

In fact, I think I need to re-watch My name is Bruce. I love the scene in his trailer when he's draining every mostly empty bottle and throwing it, and he has like 30 of them spread all over.

Evil Dead 2 was definitely supposed to be 'splatterstick' humour. The first one is more straight up horror. The series is one of my faves for sure.

Fave horror

Exorcist
John Carpenter's The Thing
Let The Right One In [original]
The Witch
The Shining
Evil Dead 2

Is no one going to mention Mikhail Abramov from the same draft? Drafted in the 4th round as well, leading his team in scoring with 76pts in 63 games, also a whooping 35pts ahead of the next teammate? He's 5'11 but only 161lbs. Lots of potential there and he isn't an overager. Not sure why Mike wouldn't mention him as well.

There's a lot of timeless humour in that film but the reason why kids won't want to watch it: pacing.

The million cuts, rapid fire dialogue, and on-the-nose comedy of today is a completely different beast than yesteryear.

Also: Airplane!, if we're honest, wasn't exactly a kids-friendly comedy film even back in the 80s.

In my humble opinion, the best horror film ever made. John Carpenter had an amazing run of films from Halloween through In the Mouth of Madness. Just phenomenal.

Big Trouble in Little China and Prince of Darkness are masterpieces and I will fight anyone who says differently.

Having said that, I hope your kids are old enough to handle some of those films!

So keep in mind the last time I saw The Thing it was on a beta vcr, but I would imagine it would be absolutely terrifying today. The idea of a killer running around in an environment of social isolation?

Yikes

Agreed about Carpenter. The Thing is a masterpiece. He really fell off after that run, but it was good. Prince of Darkness supplied inside jokes to me and my buddies for years.

I'm not recommending these for kids, just talking horror movies. For kids I like that Paw Patrol.

Sadly resonant right now.

The Morricone soundtrack itself is eerie. Definitely worth rewatching in a proper format.

I remember watching Blade Runner on crappy pan and scan VHS, and liking it. Then watching it on DVD letterbox and going oh wow this is actually a work of art.
