No, but I've read the book few times. Great movie with Nicholson but it never came close to the mindfuckery in the book. - Load Management
True. The book is great.
Stephen King hated the movie which surprised me because it’s well done regardless. |

Most movies don’t come close to the books. There’s no way to replicate the inner monologue. That said, feels like the time is right for a new The Stand miniseries. |

I think he didn’t like that it shifted the focus to the father where the book was more concerned with the destructive relationship between father and son. |

They didn't really do the telepathy justice in the movie.
Neat Jim Carrey version. |

The book The Stand was super scary, the miniseries? Not so much. |

The only good Steven King book to movie conversions (IMHO) were Misery, IT (both the miniseries and the two recent movies) and the original Pet Cemetary. |

It’s gotta be one of the top five worst big budget movies ever made. It’s the Donald Trump of movies based on books.
If that movie had been even semi-competent we’d be getting Dark Tower based media for years. |

Was that a Stephen King book? I thought that and The Green Mile were based on his work but were heavily changed for the movies in that he doesn't even consider them based on his work. |

The Shawshank Redemption is pretty faithful to the source material. So is Green Mile, for that matter. |

Shawshank was part of a short story collection. The movie isn't too far off the original storyline. |

The only difference that I can think of off the top is that the book describes why Red is in prison—the movie never does. |

Sure it does - twice actually. Once he's talking with Andy about how he was a stupid young kid that robbed a store and that he actually admits he's guilty. And then later during his parole hearing he mentions that he regrets every day what he did and that he doesn't even know who that kid(him) is anymore.

He admits he’s guilty, and expresses remorse, but I don’t think he ever specified what he’s guilty of. |

Andy asks him what he's in for and he says "Murder - only guilty man in Shawshank." |

Great book. The stories are very short. Shawshank is like 90 pages total which is amazing considering the movie is almost spot on. |
