Great movie. I think there’s corruption in all financial systems, America’s is bad, but not as bad a some other countries across the pond. In America, Canada included, it’s sink or swim. - Pacificgem
I know but America’s the biggest and essentially the most important. If they fart we all smell it. |

The amount of money they poured into politicians to change or support legislation is staggering. Their industry wanted to sell stock piles of ex military weaponry to the masses under the good guy with a gun propaganda. Now they are the most armed nation in the world and they wonder why they have frequent mass shootings. The kicker to that is the response propaganda of more guns are needed to stop the bad guys. Brilliant marketing that would make Joseph Goebbels blush. |

Sad thing is, all it would take is Trump saying that Canada caused the virus and we'd be invaded by Amerinazis yelling about taking their guns from their cold dead hands. |

Yeah hope we don't get "Comet Pizzad" by those nut jobs but I think they are more likely to self implode. Hate is more local oriented and there might even be more frequent mass shootings in the wake of this pandemic with a depressed economy. Another channel they would use seeking to blame those they hate.
All the above are ingredients to truly create a fascist state. There is a new HBO mini series about how the 1940's could have unfolded into a fascist USA. It revolves around if they elected as President Mr. "Spirtit of St. Louis" hero Charles Lindbergh. Instead of the socialist reformer Roosevelt that combated the ills of the Great Depression. |

To the financial wizards, I invested 190 000 on Lefty's advise, it went up to 223,000, then over the past 2 weeks, it has dropped to 176,000.
Where does the money that I originally invested, end up? Does it disappear into thin air? Does it go to the owners of the stock exchanges?
Worse yet, does it go to The idiot who runs the United States?
My"locked-in" rrsp's, are definitely locked in, by the capitalists.
I would very much like to cut my losses now, but, am told that I have to play out this downturn...sad stuff.
Oh well, I expect the 2% will make out okay,.
Glad to hear you are okay Makita.
Edit; I think Lefty owes me whatever I lose.😁 |

I try not to say a lot about the economy but the thing that scares me more is where this will go?
Right now you can't buy common things like toilet paper or hamburger meat. Canadians right now are orderly but how long before you start to see looting and gangs forming? That has always had me more concerned than the actual virus.
I don't medically know a lot about the virus nor am I economist but it doesn't take a lot to see that this can go South rather quickly.
I think people can tolerate a month but after that you will see more and more not following the rules.
Some people began this week as week one and me I have been off three weeks already so everyone is not on the same playing level.
There were no new deaths in BC in the last 2 days.
Don't get the wrong impression of what I am writing because I do not know the outcome . I am not choosing a side I am just paying attention to what both sides are saying. I think this could get ugly quick but am hoping for the best. |

I think it’s funny that some people want to preserve a system that only benefits the 2%. Our world system is broken and massive change is needed. This might be the perfect time to rethink the whole damn thing.

Rueby, I’m no financial wizard but a) Yes, Lefty definitely owes you big time b) you have only “lost money” if you lose faith and take it out now. If you can afford to leave it locked in, the markets will eventually rebound and you will make money on your investments.
My mom’s mutual funds are down about $100k from last month, and she will be required to start withdrawing from them next year. These are the people who will be hurt by this (and the younger generation). I think the government needs to do more. They decreased the minimum withdrawal to help soften the blow for those drawing rrsp’s, but they need to allow people to stop drawing all together if they can afford it. |

I don’t recall ever giving you, or anyone else on here, any financial advice
My personal thoughts on investing are, take it for what it’s worth, don’t ever be an emotional investor. If your work life has another decade to go, don’t worry about what’s happening in the markets. You haven’t lost anything unless you sell.
If you’re older and withdrawing your RRSPS well then you have issues, depending on the size of your portfolio, but I don’t think you fall into that category. The fact that you even have savings is a good thing, millions of people in the USA and Canada don’t.
The markets have made a nice uptick the past couple of days with the stimulus packages being announced. |

I've been looking at doing some VERY small investing (I'm a poor artist), but I'm wondering if they're going to stay steady now with the stimulus packages from all the governments, or once the waves of COVID start cropping up across the US/New York gets hit harder, they're going to drop again...? |

I’m not a professional investor but I do talk to my investment guy a lot right now, the worst is probably over, it’ll fluctuate up and down like a yo-yo (loved those things as a kid) but guys with lots of money are buying like crazy at these prices. There’s some wicked deals out there right now.
Interpipe (IPL-T) on the TSX is a strong buy right now, they pay a great dividend and you can pick it up for around $9 dollars, it’s a $23 dollar stock. |

why would someone do this?!?!?!? is a viral tweet that people disregard in 3 seconds worth it?
with everything you see in politics, read on the internet and see on social media, my question is: has society been dumbed down to this extent or has it always been this dumb but technology has made stupidity more visible? |
