Every pick traded for 2020 would need to defer to the next season if they did that. More than half the leagues GMs/Owners would not agree to giving picks away for literally nothing if they weren't going to do something about it. Toffoli was good for us, but the 5 or 6 games we got him for was not worth Madden and a 2nd. Playoffs and Playoff games would have been worth it 100% though.

You'd think right. Hopefully JB's already engaged in some talks with TT's reps.

Think he meant the conditional one for JTM...?
- NewYorkNuck

That would defer to a 20/21 or 21/22 pick instead in this case. Our 2020 second we paid for Toffoli would become 2021. The problem is what to do about the players that picks were paid for, all current contracts extend a year? Give teams one compliance buy out as well?

Slightly off the topic but I wonder how anxious Don and Bloated are to go back to the arena ? I wonder if they are going to wait , or go back for game one?

Back on topic now , I have no idea how this whole thing is going to play out . I think the PA will have a lot of concessions .

TBH I don’t go much anymore. Only went to three games this season. I’ll eventually go to more games once they show more consistency but I ain’t going to financially support bumbling management. Only way owners and managers wisen up if fans hit them we’re it counts... their wallets.

I heard they both shot a 17...

They Lied

I gave them both a stroke penalty for moving the ball but they did mark 17 on the score cards

It could also be a good idea if the NHL streams the entire playoffs and each fan pays like $10 and gets to stream all the games.

Almost a good idea but ,most fans then will fill the bars and spend 200 in drinks so they can avoid the crowds and the expense of the game

Lots of events and concerts cancelled here, for a beach town it's a disaster. We'll be dead all summer, even if this ends in a couple of months.

I don’t think you can cancel or put off those trades. There are two sides. LA lost the services of their employee for that time, Vancouver benefited from it. I don’t think it matters that they won’t get the last dozen or whatever games that were left. The condition on JTM was playoffs, which wasn’t met so they keep it. For other teams that had Stanley cup win as a condition, well it wasn’t met, so no extra/upgrade. It’s the only fair way I can see. Sucks for San Jose, but they’ve been sucking all year...

Truthfully I am not too concerned . It is more water cooler talk for me.

I first of all think if Canucks truly want a first round pick they have the assets to make a trade.

I also feel Podkolzen will be ready 2021 so skipping one year is not a big deal .

Last year was also called a deep draft and I have not seen a real impact player yet. There was good players obviously but not game changers.

No, I won’t be going to games in July but we can’t stay inside forever. Eventually we’ll have to emerge from our burrows.

My perspective on this virus was always to flatten the curve so not to overwhelm our medical system like what’s happened in Italy. I’m hoping that’s happening but the news reports aren’t encouraging.

I’m hoping we can all reevaluate by Mother’s Day (May 10th) to see where we are as a society. I believe the world is now doing its best to mobilize, study, and defeat this virus.

If we haven’t got a handle on this by then I have no idea what’s going to happen.

Deep draft doesn't necessarily mean immediate impact. The 2003 draft was perhaps the deepest ever (?) and even our fantastic pick, Kesler took years to have an impact.
As cliche as it is, you can't judge a draft or pick until a few years later. Hell, Virtanen went from bust to a mediocre pick in the last couple years.

Greetings, friends - hope you're all doing well!

I was a little delayed with the blog this morning as I took in the NHL's Metro Division conference call — was nice to hear from some players on how they're working through this strange situation.

As for Travis Green, it sounds like he's getting back to work; should be well prepared if the season does somehow manage to resume...

I think teams that gave out picks for a shot will regret it, but only a little. Tampa, Carolina etc.

I wonder what the NHL’s drop dead date is? Like, when would they publicly say fuck it and start planning for next year? There are so many other moving parts, like the draft and free agency, training camp, ticket sales (season and single game)
