Thats another trait I remeeber from those Bobby Clarke GM years - impatience with young forwards. Patrick Sharp comes to mind as well. I think if Couturier had come up during that regime, he would have been traded for an aging free-agent for the playoffs /push couple of years back.

I hated when we traded jw but the team needed a day man and the offense was plenty sufficient without him. This was presalary cap days and pre profit sharing so we would pay to keep high (at the time) guys. In hindsight it looks terrible but I don’t recall many other d men who could fill the void better than markov that would have cost less.

And the lockout happened soon after. If we had been able to keep Markov it would have been a much better trade.

Fully agree. I liked the little bit of Danny we got. Great point shot or at least a hard point shot

Tim Kerr has to get some sort of consideration for being on the all-time Flyers team. He was an absolute goal-scoring machine, and killer on the PP. As good as John LeClair was in front of the net in his day, to me, he was a Tim Kerr-light. Of course, LeClair had an absolute howitzer of a slapshot, with which he could score from anywhere past the redline (I wished he’d used the slapshot more actually)... and that is something that Kerr did not have, as I recall.

How do you use a slap shot more often if your job is to drive to the net and stand in the crease?

Before Kerr wrecked his shoulder, he could score a variety of ways beyond his usual tap-in and rebound put-backs. He was a threat from deeper in the slot. He could score on the backhand. He could score from his knees. Watch the clips from his four goals in about 8 minutes against the Rangers in the 1985 playoffs. Two were from the doorstep (one forehand, one backhand), one from the right circle, one from middle slot.

with Kerr it was all about the release. He knew where to find the open spot or at least get his stick in a position where the defender was at a disadvantage. He was text book front net presence. The fact that he was a beast to move just completed the package. What a great Flyer....and I agree should be in consideration when talking about all time Flyers.

100%

Also, on another topic, I’ve seen people make comments about not “wanting” to watch hockey in the summer....like it’s not when it’s usually played so they would rather just cancel it than watch in July/August.

That seems weird to me.

Some people are weirdos.

I'll watch hockey 365 days of the year if I could.

Agreed if it is a Flyers game that counts for something I am watching it. Don't care what time of day or year.

I hear what you’re saying. But there were times when LeClair would be chugging down the wing with the puck with a chance to wind up and shoot, and he would instead try getting closer in or passing [causing me to yell at the TV]. I know, he was the professional at scoring goals and knew much better than me how to do it. And don’t get me wrong, I loved LeClair as a Flyer... have a replica jersey of his.

Thank you, Bill. I think because it was 30+ years ago, and Kerr scored so many from in close, that I’m now fuzzy on the ones he scored from farther out.

Great lineup. You just forgot about me, Rod “the man” Brind’Amour
