Tyler Cameron: Random Blackhawks Spotlight: Cameron Barker
I always like to go against the grain and provide a slightly different perspective with my writing.
I wanted to provide something fun and entertaining for you all, so I am beginning a series that I'm calling "Random Blackhawks Spotlight" and it will be focused on the lesser-known Hawks.
The first up, Cam Barker. |

Heavy shot from the point, solid tip of the umbrella on the PP is what I remember most. Not a fighter, but also wouldn't be pushed around in the front of the net. |

I always remember wanting him to be really good and he always was slightly disappointing. Really good point shot that he could get on net, but seemed to be a bit slow and struggled a bit defensively. Kind of like a bigger Gus.
I have two requests:
1) Theo Fleury
2) Peter Bondra |

I remember Cam coming back to training camp in 2014 at Notre Dame. Didn't make his second chance with the Hawks either
Two players I'd like to see are Evan Brophey and Kyle Beach. |

I was responsible for his demise. When Rocky brought Mikita back as an ambassador they had a game honoring him and all of the Hawks wore a 21 jersey signed by Mikita in the pregame skate and they auctioned them off. I was the winning bidder on the Barker jersey. Lucky me (ugh). Bad luck for Cam. He was doomed. |

haha. Damn you. CHI really needed him to be good at that time.
Although, when you look at those rosters, I'm not sure how much he would have helped. Man they used to be terrible. |

That was Tallon also - LAHawk
I'd have to look. Not that Tallon hasn't had his share of wtf 1st rounders, (see Beech and Skille...imagine the uproar if Stan had picked those two ![:duh:](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/duh.gif) ), but I want to say that Pully had grabbed the helm again that year and Tallon was maybe still Director of Scouting? Could be wrong. |

Just goes to show if you have the 3rd pick in the draft Take a CENTER!!!!! |

If I remember correctly either Washington or Pittsburg moved up in the draft pushing the Hawks to third pick .
Or they would have had Malkin or Ovie |

They probably would of went for local legend Al Montoya, who went 6th. |

P.O.S
Everybody talks about his "cannon" of a shot. I never saw it. I saw him shank way more shots than anything else. And I had a really good view at the time. I called bullpoop on him almost immediately. I had heard all the hype and was expecting someone like a Seabrook. But he was Horsepoop (with a capital H). The only reason I can think of why Minny traded Leddy for Barker was to shed Kim Johnsson, who had some real issues and soon was told to (frank) off and stay gone. |

He couldn't skate. Not well enough to be the 3rd overall pick anyway. He wasn't a terrible player, and was an important 3rd pair guy on that 2008-9 team, but skating always held him back. |

That draft must have been thin on defense obviously. Right after those two Russians and I figured he must be awesome. Good enough to provide a lot intrigue for me as a fan...and got us Leddy so not much bitterness here. Would have loved to see a Hall of Famer pan out but that proves it isn't easy to predict |

I remember Barker being a pretty decent PP QB, but not much else. How about:
Boris Mironov
Steve McCarthy |

What was the consensus on him by the experts before the draft? |

Look on the bright side- the Panthers took Olesz - mind you the Hawks ended up with him for about 4 games or whatever --- so I mean at least Barker contributed something for like a season - but that was it --- as opposed to.... well, never. |
