[quote=spanky]Wow! What a pessimistic outlook. You been watching the TV to many hours a day about the Corona virus. The media gets the folks like you in a panick mode. Yes we do have older people dying because of this virus( 90% of the fatalities had other medical issue prior to the outbreak. This country has had to fight off 4 very dangerous viruses in the las 12 years. Some of these viruses had over 100,00 (0ne over 300,00) fatalities.... luckily we are not even close to those numbers of past viruses. My question would be why so much hype From the media over this corona virus? The media showed very little hype in the past and didn’t have the majority of the people in such a panic mode that they clear the shelves in the grocery store. If every person would be prudent and only shop when absolutely necessary instead of having a love fest at the grocery store... this virus would be totally under control in no time like what happened in China. - spanky
I wouldn't call it hype necessarily but while mortality is certainly an issue for some, the potential larger issue is rates of infection and the ability to overwhelm hospital systems. Look at what's happened in Italy as an example.
Also, who honestly knows exactly what happened in China? |

Why would there be a compliance buyout this off season? - GPHawksfan
Due to possible large revenue lost for nhl as a result of this virus outbreak the cap will either stay the same or decrease. |

When you have millions of people cleaning out the shelves of toilet paper ...somebody definitely made these folks in a non rational mode... Wouldn't you agree ?
You are correct, we do not really know what really happened in China.. Or still happening! We also really doen't know how many deaths this virus has killed in the U.S. We doen't even know what country had patient Zero in spreading this killer virus! |

Or maybe they were already irrational. I'm not sure how loading up on toilet paper eases the signs or symptoms of a virus that causes respiratory distress. |

The lower CAD dollar will also play a part in a lower cap. |

I wasn’t aware - until recently - that the CBA says that next year’s cap is somehow based on this year’s final HRR.
It’s apparent that this year’s HRR is going to be dramatically reduced, which would lead to a dramatically reduced cap for next season.
But: if (IF) we (the world) get back to “normal” at some point, next season’s actual HRR should get back to “normal” also - which means that if they could settle next year’s cap on projected income for next year, the cap wouldn’t be reduced.
The League and the NHLPA could get together and decide to do that.
As TJYTJY said, tho, the value of the Looney could drop with the drop in oil prices, affecting next year’s cap also. |

Because this scared the poop out of people.
It started as a flu, so it still made people need to go to a bathroom, I guess a lot ... |

It's part of the human nature survival instinct - the instinct to be sure you and your family get your share of whatever it is before it's gone. Next time someone should get the word out the the world is running out of rubber bands and watch there be a run on rubber bands. We've all got the trait to some extent - all of us are on the human survival instinct scale between one extreme and the other - some of can just hold off the irrational and hysterical phases a bit longer than others.
Are we still having fun?

I've never had fun, because I can't see my girlfriend & her asthma makes the disease more prone to attack her more severely. So we make do with the little we can do in our separate states until April 7th & I'm praying it's not longer. |

I thought Rusty was a compliance buyout and Montador the other when the then new CBA allowed teams to exercise up to two of them. Weren't one or both of those guys on LTIR? - HawkintheD
See the attached link. I don't think Montador was on LTIR at the time of the buyout. This article dated 6/26/13 says he returned to action earlier that Spring after being out with a concussion for over a year. Prior to the buyout he passed through waivers and was assigned to Rockford.
https://blackhawkup.com/2...s-buy-out-montador-olsez/
So IF there is a buyout this off season and IF either Seabrook and Shaw are not medically cleared and still on LTIR during the buyout window, they cannot be bought out? |

Revenue SHOULD be pro rated to the amount of games played if they do it fairly, but then it's the NHL we're talking about. |

Like Barker, there were many prospects who we wished would have lived up to potential or proved to be at least a solid role player. Imagine a roster if they panned out. Thinking not very pretty.
This lineup starts with the 1990 draft. Players included are either retired now, career minor leaguers, or no longer in the NHL but may be toiling somewhere else in the world.
Skille - Pirri - Beach
Morin - McNeill - Ellison
Sweatt - Nordqvist - M Keith
Blunden - Brophey - Bertram
Aliu, Leroux, Von Arx
Barker - Babchuk
Olsen - Clendening
McCarthy - Lalonde
Droppa, Fournier
Carruth
Simpson
Munro
Also, I didn't include any of the Russian prospects like Nabokov, Kojevnikov, Makarov, Radulov, Yakubov, and Vorobiev although any 3 of them could have formed a line. |

If that's the case then I submit we add that Russian guy Foley did that epic rant about to the list of past Hawks Luminaries to have a thread dedicated to them. I don't recall the guys name - was it Karpotsov? - EbonyRaptor
Sadly Alexander was killed on the plane where all the KHL players died on. He was an assistant coach on the team. Former Hawk Igor Korolev also lost his life. Terrible tragedy for all of those involved. God bless them and their families. |

I'd like to nominate former Hobey Baker winner: Bill Watson
