Yeah, I know this opinion will not make me popular but, I am resentful that I am going to pay for this through higher taxes.

There are way too many people that live well beyond their means and/or don't save any money and now expect tax dollars to bail them out. My wife and I have been careful with our money, lived well beneath our means, made sure we had 2 or 3 months salary in the bank (This is NOT a new concept) and saved for our retirement. Now that retirement savings is threatened AND I am going to pay for the idiots in our society.

... obviously this frustration does not apply to the people who are genuinely struggling to make ends meet and are affected by this so seriously through no faulty or negligence of their own. I am talking about the people with huge credit card debt who are driving a BMW or a 60K pickup truck that they don't need, who are now worried about their rent and grocery costs.

I don't know how you reliably tell the difference between these kinds of people, but when I listened to Andrea Horvath this morning it made me want to puke.

Fwiw, public transit in most cities cost $100-125/mth. So it’s not that cheap, either. A bicycle is the way to go. Weed and eating out has always been my largest expenses.

I highly suggest mushrooms to correct that. Everyone needs a reset from time to time.

I don’t mean to put any of those down who like to get Audi’s and BMW’s but (frank) I would never ever consider getting one if I had the money.

Their performance and quality is the same as cars much cheaper but the name has been built up to be this car everyone will be jealous of you if you have one.

But agreed, spending over 50gs on a car is foolish in my opinion. Cars are simply getting way too expensive. Growing up you could get a nice new truck for relatively cheap, nowadays they are more expensive than most small luxury cars.
Always chuckled a bit at people who drove expensive 4 door Acuras, i was like, you know thats just a civic or accord with a different badge and about 10gs more on the price tag, right?

I had to look that one up - it's probably been over 25 years since I've seen that film, although it came up in talking with the neighbours last week - it's on the list of things to show the kids.

I'll take that bus that picks up the woman at the start of the film - he puts it on "autopilot" when they are driving across the dried-out sea bed, then goes upstairs to the roof and serves drinks.

Everybody's free to spend their money on what they like, and lord knows I buy stupid stuff (I'm going to drop $500 on a furnace condensation pump tomorrow!!!) but to me, a car is a piece of machinery to get me from A to B. I don't really care what it looks like, and I don't need "performance" when I'm driving to a hockey rink at 6 am on a Sunday morning in February.

It needs to be reliable. That's it.

I’m not talking a Honda Civic. But there are plenty of cars with better or same performance....a lot of what you pay for is the logo on the front.

Yeah I agree. I always wanted a nice truck, morning fancy just a new Toyota Tacoma or a F150.

I gave that up and bought a used Honda Pilot off a friend of mine an never looked back.

My mindset is the money I save I can use on trips, things I really enjoy in life.

That’s why I only buy Hondas.

My last one went to 660,000km’s and I never changed the oil until it got to 30k.. bumholes in AB said I needed a pickup, but I drove Rhonda around Grande Prairie and Red Deer for years without any problems.

Hadn’t bought cars in many years till recently. Other than hybrid all I really cared about was the safety package and general ease of use entertainment, navigation, etc. There’s a real difference in those kinds of things. Everything else I couldn’t start to understand.
